    Hi all,

I'm making a compilation of sorts for a friend of mine with a request that it be comprised mainly of scores that have a piano at the forefront of the themes. I have some pieces picked out off the top of my head, but would appreciate any recommendations/suggestions from you guys on what else I might include. As much as I'd love to throw in something like Goldsmith's "Ilia's Theme" from Star trek: The Motion Picture, it would stray from what I've already thought of.

These are just off the top of my head...

    “The Rain” Joe Hisaishi, Kikujiro
“The Gravel Road” James Newton Howard, The Village
“Consequences & Loss” [exit] Antonio Pinto, Lord Of War
“Sunset” [aka. “Tennessee”] Hans Zimmer, Pearl Harbour
“Wong Chia Chi’s Theme” Alexandre Desplat, Lust, Caution

One thing that eludes me that I'd love to include, being in Canada, is the Memoirs Of A Geisha iTunes EP where John Williams plays "Sayuri's Theme" on piano with Yo-Yo Ma on cello. Can anyone help me with that one? Thanks.

Oh, wow! Thanks a bunch. I'd complete forgotten about that thread, and that's silly since I even recommended Barry's beautiful Indecent Proposal in it! Email has been sent.

Sean, Mark Camilleri made me a 4 or 5 disc compilation, thoughtfully sequenced, of music from movies featuring piano. It turned out pretty darn good. Mark, do you have those track listings?

More Kaczmarek comes to mind. Unfaithful as well as Lost Souls feature some standout piano pieces.

Then theres Terence Blachard's Caveman's Valentine.

    The Hours by Philip Glass

Someone isn't reading the posts before he replies

There have been loads of great piano-heavy releases since then, mostly thanks to Desplat and Marianelli.

If you sell this compilation and donate your proceeds to the Star Trek charity I might consider downloading it off of Soulseek.

Andrew: FRAK YOU! (You mean to make Star Trek "good"? How concerned are you that Roberto and Alex might be writing The Man Of Steele for Brian?) Everyone else: Thank you.

On Mark Mancina's website, there's a piano cue from August Rush that I really enjoy... just had to toss that one in there...

Here's what I came up with after much humming and hawing and mixing and matching (there are obviously numerous pieces I couldn't cram onto the disc that I wanted to, and so I should have gone for a double album like Camillu, but I didn't--some missing cues are "Ilia's Theme" from Goldsmith's Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Basil Poledouris' "The Decision" from For The Love Of the Game, and a certain beautiful theme from John Barry's Indecent Proposal):

    01. "Pianos" [06:59] from Serenada Schizophrana, Danny Elfman
    02. "Maestro" [03:53] from The Holiday, Hans Zimmer
    03. "Charades" [05:49] from Lady In The Water, James Newton Howard
    04. "Avner's Theme" [06:14] from Munich, John Williams*
    05. "Battlestar Sonatica" [04:45] from Battlestar Galactica: Season 3, Bear McCreary
    06. "Prospectors Arrive" [04:34] from There Will Be Blood, Jonny Greenwood
    07. "Jack's Theme" [04:05] from Pirates Of The Caribbean: Unreleased, Hans Zimmer
    08. "Atonement" [05:15] from Atonement, Dario Marianelli
    09. "Road To Chicago" [03:06] from Road To Perdition, Thomas Newman
    10. "The Ludlows" [05:38] from Legends Of The Fall, James Horner
    11. "Sunset" [03:38] from Pearl Harbour, Hans Zimmer
    12. "Wong Chia Chi's Theme" [03:43] from Lust, Caution, Alexandre Desplat
    13. "The Rain" [05:38] from Kikujiro, Joe Hisaishi
    14. "Consequences And Loss" [04:27] from Lord Of War, Antonio Pinto
    15. "S.O.P. Theme #1: Standard Operating Procedure" [05:56] from Standard Operating Procedure, Danny Elfman
    16. "Leave No Man Behind" [06:17] from Black Hawk Down, Hans Zimmer

    Total Time: 01:19:48

*This is a mix I made using the guitar rendition of Williams' theme until it ends and then moving it into the end credits piece where the piano breaks in
