Okay, who's figured out the music used in the montages last night during the broadcast.

I haven't figured out them all yet, and I'm hoping someone has.

I don't remember which one it was but one used the theme from Randy Edelman's "Dragonheart" which I really like.

Whenever they want to frame an Oscar montage with a grand and uplifting theme, there's a very good chance it is Dragonheart. I soon visited my box of 'extra' scores, played some of the tracks and put it into my car this morning. It's a beautiful piece of music.

The "In Memorium" music was Bill Conti's SLOW DANCING IN THE BIG CITY.

I know the "80 Years of Oscars" toward the beginning was some John Williams.

I'm not sure of the music during the "Best Picture" montage though.

Speaking of Dragonheart, saw two trailers the other day and they used music from Dragonheart and from Dinosaur(the egg travels cue)

Oscars too boring these days. Havent watched one all the way through since 1986 when North got that honorary one. He said that night about the movies "leave something to the imagination, dont show it all"

What a coincidence John. I was just reading the liner notes of Goldsmith's re-recording of North's unused 2001 score and it also quoted him at the Oscars.
Wasn't he talking about sex in movies in that quote though? He didn't like the films of despair and bloody violence but wanted to encourage films of hope, humour, adventure and love.
    The quote is...

    quote:
And sex, sex, sex by all means...indeed, but with a bit of mystery, a touch of charm and elegance, and lots of imagination."

From the very brief snippets of score they played whilst announcing the 5 Best Score nominees, I thought it was very apparent that Giacchino had concocted the most memorable theme.

IIRC the Best Picture montage was identical to that played during the 75th Oscars. In fact, many of the film snippets seemed identical as well.
