22nd James Bond Film Has a Title!
    Source: Gibbers, BBC News, Reuters
    January 24, 2008

Sony Pictures has announced that the official title for the 22nd James Bond installment is Quantum of Solace. The title is taken from one of a collection of short stories published by 007 creator Ian Fleming in 1960.

The new film sees 007 (Daniel Craig) out for revenge on a mission that takes him to Austria, Italy and South America. Bond girl Camille, played by Ukrainian-born Olga Kurylenko, leads the secret agent to Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), member of a mysterious organization and a ruthless businessman, seeking to control huge natural resources.

The plot follows on directly from Casino Royale, as Bond aims to uncover the truth about Vesper, the beauty who betrayed him, and discovers that she had been blackmailed.

"James Bond is after revenge, and Camille is after revenge and they have slightly different goals, but in the end they are going to have to collaborate," Kurylenko said.

At a press conference at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, reporters were shown a minute of footage from the new film, including Bond swinging on a rope after an explosion at an art gallery in Siena, Italy.

Another scene showed him meeting M, played by Dame Judi Dench, outside in the snow.

Kurylenko says she will play a very different Bond girl. She has yet to film any scenes, but is working hard preparing for her role.

"I'm doing weapons training and body flight training for aerial scenes and stunt work for fighting," she said. "My days are so long, and it's very physical. She's a fighter. This girl is going to kick ass. She's on her own mission and she's driven by revenge."

Actress Gemma Arterton plays an MI6 agent in the film and has already shot her love scenes with 007. She said, "I felt like a giggly girl, and I felt so young and inexperienced - but I kissed James Bond!"

The 21-year-old said her Bond role is "not so frolicksome" and her character "fresh and young, not sultry and a femme fatale".

Doesn't exactly lend itself to title song lyrics does it?

Sounds like a band, not like a Bond...

As a side note, I want Muse to do the title song.

I still think Sting would be the perfect choice to do a Bond film. His song "Probably Me" from Lethal Weapon 3 was note perfect.

Yeah, TOTALLY different ... not at all like The Spy Who Loved Me or For Your Eyes Only or Die Another Day or Tomorrow Never Dies or ... point made.

    "Quantum of Solace"

Quantum = an indivisible entity of energy Very small.)
Solace = "something that gives comfort, consolation, or relief."

To me, it means that Bond is looking for a small bit of comfort or relief about Vesper.

What is it with this chick? Am I the only one who thinks she's a weirdo, and that I don't think she has any talent?

She's definitely weird, but she oozes talent, man. I used to think the same thing you said in your post, until I actually heard her music. After Shirley Bassey, Winehouse was born for a Bond title song. Relax, some of the most talented and genius people in the entertainment industry are extremely crazy and eccentric. Don't be hating!

Dude, I don't hate her, I just don't "get" her.

As we all know (especially us film score geeks) everyone doesn't have the same tastes in music.

Personally, I think Amy Lee could do a great job with a Bond title tune.

Now, if you want to talk hate, I can go off on how I hate Rap "music"....

    Amy Lee? As in Evanescence?

    Sarcasm, or what?

Apparently Amy Winehouse read my post above and checked herself into rehab yesterday.

I think the title will grow on me. I thought it was idiotic at first, but in time I will like it. Andrew, did you tell me Marc Forster was directing this? If that's true than he better smarten up quickly, because I hated his latest, The Kite Runner.

As for a title song, I wouldn't mind hearing a kick-ass instrumental only theme song for this one! On her Majesty's Secret Service had the last great original theme for a Bond film, so why not try and add to that. Forget these silly Amy girls you guys keep talking about.

    No sarcasm intended.

(Yeah, that's a rare thing for me)

Amy has a wonderful voice. You might not like her band or stuff, but she can sing.

I am frankly shocked at myself about liking her, as I'm a old-time rock-n-roll guy, who - if not listening to film scores - main listen to Rush, Clapton, Zeppelin, Floyd.

I just think she could do a great job with a Bond song.
