The Bourne Ultimatum - Tangiers (John Powell)

Over 7 and a half minutes of bliss. Powell perfectly blends percussion, orchestra, ethnicity and synth. And yet it never sounds too crowded. Brilliant stuff. I went jogging this morning and just put this on my iPod and chose repeat. Best jog this year.

    Honourable mentions:
Hostel Part II - Suite (Barr)
At World's End - I Don't Think Now Is The Best Time (Zimmer)
Ratatouille - Most cues, but probably the End Credits (Giacchino)
    Atonement - Briony (Dario Marianelli)

Hint: ATONEMENT isn't composed by Alexandre Desplat...

If I had to pick just one maybe
A Gift of Paradise from Angel (Philippe Rombi)

There are a number of cues from Lair that stand out too, like Firestorm and Return to Mokai City pt.1

I know the feeling. You should try listening to "To The Roof" or "Bim Bam Smash" from The Bourne Supremacy during your jog. The last minute of both of those tracks will have you in an all out sprint .

And now I'm convinced -- The Bourne Ultimatum is now at the top of my "to-get" list. Well, right behind Battlestar Galactica, which I'm convinced will have my favorite track for 2007 (cough... "Storming New Caprica") .

Stargate, I'm with you there: I have a feeling "Storming New Caprica" will be my favourite track of the year (I'm dying to hear this, as most of it is either buried in mix for that incredible scene, or received an entirely different mix altogether during Exodus). We shall see this Tuesday. Hans Zimmer definitely pulled out all the stops for me with "I Don't Think Now Is The Best Time" for At World's End; and Powell's "Tangiers" is a close second to that, easily the best action piece of the Bourne scores.

Sorry, any list that has Nathan Barr's score for Hostel: Part 2 and doesn't include "Tatiana" and "Trans-Siberian Diary" from Shore's Eastern Promises, as well as "The Angel" from Desplat's Lust, Caution, "Release the Hounds" from Zimmer's The Simpsons Movie, "Trailer Park" from Shire's Zodiac, "Godless People (End Title)" from T. Newman's The Good German, "The F-35" from Beltrami's Live Free or Die Hard and "Ben Takes the Stage" from Beltrami's 3:10 to Yuma is a flawed list, my friend.

    Damn those opinions!

nuts, isn't The Good German from last year? Zimmer's Simpsons was boring, omit that track you like.

Ah, but Sean, Varese's CD of The Good German wasn't released until this year.

    Natch. Let's party!

Let's see... if we're counting CDs released this year, then perhaps 'Graysmith Obsessed' from David Shire's ZODIAC is the one for me. Runner up would be 'Angel Falls' from George Fenton's PLANET EARTH.

    Others would be:
    - 'Snow Leopard', 'The Lion and the Oryx', 'Elephants of the Okavango', 'Amur Leopard' from PLANET EARTH (Fenton)
    - 'Das Jedem Seine' and 'Always Something Worse' from THE GOOD GERMAN (Thomas Newman)
    - 'The Water Wheel' from THE PAINTED VEIL (Alexandre Desplat)
    - 'Colette shows him the ropes' from RATATOUILLE (Giacchino)
    - 'The Real Life of Angel Deverell' and 'Angel's Theme' from ANGEL (Philippe Rombi)
    - 'Desire', 'Tsim Sha Tsui Scroll' and 'Wong Chia Chi's Theme' from LUST CAUTION (Desplat)
    - 'Fantomes' from L'ENNEMI INTIME (Desplat)
    - 'Cycle' from YEAR OF THE WOLF (Kantelinen)
    - 'Sinking Ship' from 1408 (Yared)
    - 'The Invisible Front' and 'HGW XX/7' from THE LIVES OF OTHERS (Yared/Moucha)
    - 'Depart de Chez Jourdain' from MOLIERE (Talgorn)
    - 'Violin Romance' from AS YOU LIKE IT (Doyle)
    - 'I Love You' from THE LAST SIN-EATER (McKenzie)
    - 'Ben Takes the Stage' and 'Barn Burn' from 3:10 TO YUMA (Beltrami)
    - 'Waterloo' and 'Tangiers' from THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM (Powell)
    - 'One Day' and 'Up is Down' from AT WORLD'S END (Zimmer)
    - 'Eastern Promises' and 'Tatiana' from EASTERN PROMISES (Shore)
    - 'I Decide when it gets pulled' from FRACTURE (Danna bros)
    - 'The Violin' from THE GOOD SHEPHERD (Zarvos)
    - 'Evening' from EVENING (Kaczmarek)
    - 'With my own eyes', 'The Half Killed', 'Elegy for Dunkirk' and 'Atonement' from ATONEMENT (Marianelli)
    - 'End Titles' and 'Bandshell' from LITTLE CHILDREN (Newman)
    - 'Opening' from THE GOLDEN AGE (Armstrong/Rahman)
    - 'The West Was Built on Legends' and 'Penance Stare' from GHOST RIDER (Young)
    - 'Birth of Sandman', 'Harry and Peter Jazz Brawl' and 'Black Suited Spiderman goes to Church' from SPIDERMAN 3 (Young)

The scores themselves were not always good, but those tracks left an impression on me.

Slavery And Suffering - Eastern Promises
Six Weeks Ago - The Bourne Ultimatum
    Professor Umbridge - OoTP
Main Title + Man of His Word - 3:10 To Yuma
Mary's Beheading - Elizabeth: The Golden Age
Lust, Caution + Falling Rain - Lust, Caution

And from the tidbits I've heard from The Assassination of Jesse James from the trailer, I'll put that on my list too. I can't think of anything else at the moment.

That's all I can think of right now.
