Lakeshore Records is releasing two more Mark Isham scores next month:

    RESERVATION ROAD (due on 10/16/07)

    and

    BOBBY (due on 10/30/07)

I knew about the first one but the BOBBY score release was quite a surprise. So far the site only says iTunes for release but I am hoping these will be CD releases also.

    (Any word on these Peter?)

Yeah, good news on Bobby. Pre-order here:
    http://www.moviemusic.com/soundtrack/bobby-score

CD release for Bobby is 10/30. Also is a "best of Mark Isham" from Lakeshore on 10/30. I think their first composer-themed CD release.

    Hey Peter,

I see you've posted the tracklist for RESERVATION ROAD. Have you been given any further information on this "Best of Mark Isham" CD coming from Lakeshore yet?

    Thanks,

    James

Oh...here's a tracklist for BOBBY that I found at CD Universe:

    1. Prologue
    2. Ambassador Hotel, The
    3. Samantha Unpacks
    4. No One Left But Bobby
    5. Cobbler
    6. Virginia And Miriam
    7. Switchboard
    8. Chivalrous Act, A
    9. More Than The Things In Our Lives
    10. We Don't Do This
    11. Annulment

Well, that sucks. I was really getting into his stuff. I guess labels (save Varese) don't think that compilations are a big draw. I'm still steamed that Commotion Records axed that Mark Mothersbaugh compilation they were going to do a couple years back.

Was it completely cancelled or just postponed? I noticed the release date was pushed back to Nov. 27th on Amazon.com.

I checked this morning and the release date is 12/31/2025, aka "release date of death." It would be good news to see it back on slate.

Gracie is Isham's "American Beauty" as in being very similar to the Newman original in its vast majority. If you liked the former, you'll love Gracie.

Thanks for the opinions, Demetris. I've taken notice to Isham in the last year or two. While I haven't found many scores of his that I can sit down and simply listen to, I think some of it is great for background listening when certain moods strike.

And it looks like Lakeshore Records lost out to Varese Sarabande on his score to THE MIST.

Today's ad for the film in the L.A. Times lists a CD coming on Varese.

Varese has just updated their Upcoming Releases with information on CD:

    THE MIST
    Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

    Music Composed by Mark Isham

From the director of The Shawshank Redemtion and The Green Mile

Featuring the song “The Host Of Seraphim” by Dead Can Dance

Frequent Stephen King collaborator and three-time Oscar®-nominee Frank Darabont (The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption) teams with the celebrated horror author once again for this tale of a terror (based on a story originally published in King's 1985 horror anthology Skeleton Crew) concerning a small town engulfed by a malevolent mist. When a thick fog descends upon a typical suburban community and claims the lives of anyone unfortunate enough to be caught outside, a small band of survivors seeks refuge in a local grocery store. Now trapped in a darkened cloud of pure horror, the frightened denizens of the town are forced to fend off an advancing horde of murderous monsters.

The hauntingly atmospheric score is by Mark Isham.

The Weinstein Company opens THE MIST nationwide on November 19.

    Catalog #: 302 066 873 2
    Release Date: 01/08/08

I can't imagine that there would be much music on the The Mist CD. Here is my take on it.

The critics have been giving this movie about two stars out of four, and
    I think that is pretty accurate. I didn't think that it was all that well-directed;
it was a little choppy at times. Too many characters were caracitures or
cliches. Thomas Jane did put his heart into the movie, and his son did
a fine job as did a few other actors. I did jump a few times as there were
a few scares but not a lot.

Someone needs to explain to me why the director had Isham compose
Eastern wailing women for the last 15 minutes of the movie. That music
    did NOT fit.

That's the Dead Can Dance song that is mentioned in the press release. DCD was Lisa Gerrard's (of Gladiator and Hans Zimmer fame) old music group in the 80s and early 90s.

That's a beautiful song; though I don't see how it could fit in the film at all.

I agree 100%. I haven't seen The Mist but I've heard the song quite a few times (I think it's been making its way into quite a few trailers lately as well) and I don't see how this would be appropriate for The Mist...

It's already happened: The Black Dahlia. I guess this is just a re-issue. Maybe a few cues from Running Scared and Eight Below can be included.

You weren't kidding because this Lakeshore release is now pushed back to March 4, 2008. Why not just say 2009 and be done with it?

    James

I think the only other release of theirs pushed back more might be the soundtrack to PENELOPE which is finally seeing a release in January (both film and apparently CD).

But why would people set high standards for Isham? Granted, The Black Dahlia is nothing short of perfect, but everything else?

Uhh, the release date is still the same. Just no show on the CDs.... I'll give it a week. If nothing shows in a week, well then... maybe it's waiting for Mark to get an Oscar. And if that's the case, he better renounce his US citizenship and become a foreigner. More chance that way.

From what I've gathered from CDUniverse.com on this, it's just a compiliation of Lakeshore recordings that are already available:

BOBBY, RESERVATION ROAD, GRACIE, NEXT, etc.

Lakeshore probably ran into pretty serious problems when trying to licence Isham's music from other labels, so that's most likely why it has been delayed.
