I was just wondering if anyone knew of any information about the soundtrack to season 3 of Lost - I have yet to see any kind of release date!Giacchino did an awesome job for seasons 1 and 2 (despite some pretty good music being left out of the cds) and the music in season 3 was just as good.
I hope we see it fairly soon...

Apparently, the music is sooooo BAD that no one wants to release it.Joking aside, Lost, show and score, is so overrated it's ridiculous ... Giacchino has done the same redundant junk for each season (I know people want to point out how "Hermann-esque" or "Williams-esque" it all sounds, to put some kind of spin of sophistication on it, but it's the material that blows [as with nearly everything Giacchino has done: He's a static talent with no style of his own]); it's on par with how terrible Sean Callery's music for 24 is, and that's pretty lame scoring right there ... Bottom of the barrel.

Anyway, I too was wondering about a season 3 CD, but as far as I know, there's been no mention of it yet.
The first two seasons of Alias got CD realeases, and then nothing for the remaining 3. I hope that wasn't setting a precedent.

Season 1 was what you might, if you really want, call "Hermman-esque", though with plenty of leitmotifs hidden in the underscore of odd sounds. Season 2 added Glass-style harmonies, and Season 3 action writing that reminds me of Goldsmith's POTA, and all the while the thematic statements got bigger. There's nothing remotely "Williams-esque" though.

[as with nearly everything Giacchino has done: He's a static talent with no style of his own]);Since I've started watching Alias, Giacchino has nothing left to prove to me. No style of his own? I don't know, but even if: Does he absolutely need one? Everything I've heard by him so far was highly appropriate for the film/series, very well written and orchestrated, with - when fitting - plenty of themes skillfully interwoven. And even if he decides to switch styles for different franchises - I'd say that's a plus. He captures the oddness of Lost just as well as the over-the-top spy stuff of Alias (with the best orchestra/techno mix this side of Mona Lisa Overdrive, I might add).
Here's finally a "younger" composers who knows how to handle an orchestra, how to write themes when necessary and not throw them in your face when not, and who doesn't keep writing the same thing over and over again - and all people can do is complain that he adapts too well?

I've been wondering when Lost 3 season soundtrack would be out as well. There are certain cues that I thought were excellent that really should be on disk - Ben's theme, the theme heard when Juliet first emerges from the submarine, arriving on the island. Also some of the reworked themes of the first two seasons like Locke's theme - which has evolved and become more interesting. It intertwines with Ben's theme in certain episodes.
I've found Lost season 3 to be a little more interesting thematically than season 2.

I agree. Adaptation and versatility may very well be his strength. Not all composers have a strong "voice" or style, I guess if that's what you call it. I like his work on Lost and The Incredibles. But I suppose some people have issues with that sort of style.

The new FSM online edition contains a new interview with Michael.
He doesn't mention a Lost 3 CD, but says he is working on a Lost symphony, expanding some of the themes for full orchestra for a Sept 22 performance in Hawaii. He doesn't mention a recording. Fingers crossed!
