Music plays a huge role in how funny this movie can be, especially Trevor Rabin's score and the songs by Europe are just too funny. If anyone from SNL deserved a movie, it was Andy Samberg (Will Ferrell took a long time before making anything decent theatrically) and he delivers with Hot Rod. The film as a whole isn't spectacular, but when it's funny it's really DAMN FUNNY!!! Just wait for the hilarious scene where Andy Samberg does his best Footloose impersonation in the woods and fall hard for it, HILARIOUS! Not only that, a lot of the humour comes from Trevor Rabin's excellent score ... clearly the best 80's score of the summer: He's probably composed the most hilarious on-screen cue of the year: Will Arnett picks up his girlfriend's cellphone and talks to Andy, telling him his girl ain't around and pretends to take a message from Samberg; girlfriend returns, "Who was that? ... Arnett: "Wrong number." And the camera focuses on Arnett with some over-the-top evil music! GOLD! And the music where Samberg calls on the animal kingdom to help him in his stunts is genious, so check it:

This movie has Will Arnett in it and there for I will deffinately see it. Anytime a movie has a cast member from Arrested Development in it, I will see the movie. Except possibly The Kingdom which just looks like a live action version of Team America: World Police... But still I think Jason Bateman will be fine in that role. One of the only things that turned me away from Hot Rod is the stupid "hhhwhat" jokes. You know the ones where the person says the "H" infront of the "W"... Since that became a huge joke for Andy on SNL, it felt way over played. Plus it was in Family Guy and numerous other things...Clayton

I'm sorry Sean, I don't agree with you here. Samberg is one of the least talented SNL members since the horrible duo of Jimmy Fallon and Tina Fey. He knows what a punchline is, but he's horrible at setting anything up. And I get the impression he's not too good at improvising after his guest spot on this month's Michael Showalter Showalter (NSFW!). Sorry, he's a one-hit wonder. Despite Will Arnett's and Isla Fischer's appearance in Hot Rod, I'm saving my comedy bucks for the Michael Cera/Jonah Hill epic Superbad!

Have you seen Wet Hot American Summer?! Good stuff... Just out of curiosity, was Rabin's score to Hot Rod mocking his other scores? It just seems like he's supposed to.

Me too! The soundtrack is already awesome. These guys purposefully made the "score" sound like 70s funk songs by, get this, employing top funksters from the 70s to perform the new score. So there's this bleeding of classic funk songs and score that jive like nuthin' else... can't wait to see this.posted 08-08-2007 09:31 PM PT (US)

Too bad you're so poor, nuts, Hot Rod was awesome no matter what anyone thinks of his SNL stuff (I don't even watch that show it sucks so bad), like did anyone look at the clips or are you just judging without even seeing it? Nuts, seriously, go see it and then comment: no cry-baby I don't like Samberg on SNL so I won't like Hot Rod BS (and if you don't have the cash than just go download it ... Will Arnett's scenes are priceless too--I did mention that I knew the movie was stupid but when it's funny, it's real damn funny!!!); that's just outrageous. I'm gonna' see Superbad, too, 'cause it looks just as great. And yeah, Rabin is making fun of his own scoring style and much of the first half of his score is all 80's synth stuff, it's hilarious ... I'm glad there's a healthy portion of his score on the OST.
