Time to get out your collections, 'cause I am on to something. Noticing the album art on two sequel soundtracks from the summer, the solo character depicted has his weapon in the left hand.

    1) What two soundtracks am I speaking of?

    and

    2) How many other CDs can you find depicting left handed armament?

Can't really go to my collection since I don't own either, but I'd say you're talking about Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and The Bourne Ultimatum.

And here's one other lefty for you.

The cover of The Good the Bad and the Ugly has Lee Van Cleef holding his pistol in his left hand, and Clint Eastwood lighting the canon with his left hand.

Here's another idea... how many versions of the famous PERSONA two-shot (two faces intersect at an orthogonal angle) have graced soundtrack colours in impressionistic colours?

Here are two recent obvious ones:

    Autumn in New York
    Sleepy Hollow
    Dolores Claiborne
    A Simple Plan
Disclosure (Well, almost - if they'd only move their heads closer together, they would most certainly intersect at an orthogonal angle!)
The Sum of All Fears (I don't know if this would count)

    Colouring's very realistic for 'impressionistic'.

If it were just Fonda and Paxton, that'd be perfect. Are you just flicking through your Elfman collection btw?

Nah, that doesn't count. Not impressionistic enough.

    Neither orthognal, nor impressionistic enough.

Elfman's simply king of the impressionistic, orthognal CD cover.

    P.S
I did forget about the "impressionistic" component after the first few, and was then focusing more on the orthognal qualities of the covers.

Actually, it's a shame MULHOLLAND DRIVE didn't use as a cover image that still of the two girls' faces intersecting. That was a big PERSONA reference.

I remind participants in the orthogonal-impressionistic-two-shot challenge of the template we're looking for. Few of the above contenders are nearly as close to these as they are to each other.

One that does satisfy the challenge is BASIC INSTINCT: http://www.moviemusic.com/soundtrack/basicinstinct

As does DEAD AGAIN, in a very impressionistic way: http://www.moviemusic.com/soundtrack/deadagain

And there's a hint of it in THE GOOD GERMAN: http://www.moviemusic.com/soundtrack/goodgerman

And here's a Shadow of the Vampire. The eyeball has an impressionistic color, but is the angle orthogonal enough?

Sorry FishChip - there're looking in the same direction from what I can tell.

    Some more:
    - Becoming Jane nearly does it... colour's too realistic. http://www.moviemusic.com/soundtrack/becomingjane

    Ahh, I knew it.

Deceivers is close but no cigar on both counts. Chocolat and Cleopatra have good angles, but lack color saturation and similarly-sized heads.

Here's a choice left handed armament!!

And again with Penn, but back of the head to the back of the head instead of face to face, in The Interpreter

And another back of heads, House of Sand and Fog

The first and third here have color issues, though!

    Done for tonight...

I AM SAM... I'll admit that. There's so much brown-orange there that I'm prepared to call that impressionistic.

I'll take JUDE (that's two for Adrian Johnston!) and KISSED. LOLITA is more suitable for cases where we're looking for 'covers where one character is clearly thinking about another'.

You're getting good at this, FishChip.

How much can you rule out by imagery of a simple kiss? There are many, but too often the color is too realistic, nor does it have that glazed look you are going for (at least I think)...

Message in a Bottle looks like a keeper.

Mother, but in B&W.... and doesn't offer the overall "feeling" of what you're looking for.

    More tries:

    Practical Magic

    Othello

    Original Sin

You have an ordered collection? Mine is a random mess, sorted into two piles:
    1. Those we don't really plan to listen to... and wouldn't cry over if lost to a fire. (about 300)
    2. Those we want to go with us beyond the grave (about 1000)

Beyond those two divisions, it's a real bugger to try and find a particular score.
