    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FIRST EVER MAJOR RETAIL CD RELEASE OF
THE DARK CRYSTAL ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK TO BE RELEASED
BY LA-LA LAND RECORDS ON JULY 17

SOUNDTRACK COMMEMORATES THE FILM’S 25TH ANNIVERSARY

(July 9, 2007- New York, NY) – La-La Land Records presents the release of the original soundtrack to the classic Jim Henson fantasy adventure film The Dark Crystal, commemorating the film's 25th Anniversary. The cult favorite features thrilling, wonderous music from composer Trevor Jones (The League of Extraordinary Gentleman, Notting Hill).

It’s hard to imagine that it’s been 25 years since The Dark Crystal was released. In honor of its anniversary, Sony Home Entertainment will be releasing The Dark Crystal 25th Anniversary DVD. The film was the first co-directorial effort of Jim Henson with Frank Oz, who went on to direct The Muppets Take Manhattan, In & Out and Bowfinger. The film featured groundbreaking puppetry from Jim Henson.

Beloved by adults and children alike, The Dark Crystal is a dark children's movie that follows Jen and Kira, two young Gelflings who are the last of their kind, as they try to fulfill the prophecy of the Dark Crystal. Jen’s wise master reveals on his deathbed that only a Gelfling will mend the crystal that cracked 1,000 years ago and placed the land under the dark rule of the evil, selfish Skeksis. To break the prophecy, the Skeksis killed all the Gelflings, and only Jen and Kira escaped their wrath. Now Jen and Kira must journey into the heart of the Skeksis castle to reach the crystal and return the land to its former goodness.

Acclaimed composer Trevor Jones (Excalibur, Labyrith, Angel Heart, Cliffhanger) fashions an exquisite, lush orchestral score that brings all the awesome wonder of this classic cinematic event, directed by Jim Henson and Frank Oz, to life. The soundtrack features a beautiful score that is simply a must-have for all film music and fantasy film fans, and is the perfect compliment to the new 25th Anniversary DVD of the film, which will be in stores nationwide in July 2007.

The Dark Crystal 25th Anniversary Edition Soundtrack will be available in stores or from www.lalalandrecords.com on July 17, 2007.

Two track titles are wrong again (they were also wrong on the Numenorean-release). The correct title of track 6 is The Skeksis' Duel, not The Skeksis' Funeral and track 4 is not called The Mystical Master Dies, but The Mystic Master Dies. I hoped these would be corrected on this new release, but unfortunately they aren't.

Or maybe he is wrong. We are going off the cue sheets from the Jim Henson company vault and off the publishing information from Sony ATV Music Publishing.

Frank has a valid point. A Sony Music secretary may have had trouble transcribing a composer's handwritten notes. Look at the film, read the published screenplay, see what's accurate. Make it accurate! It can be possible. If publishing laws get in the way of correcting a track name later on, there is a problem with the publishing laws.

I mean, come on. We have one saying it's supposed to be duel and the other saying it's a funeral? I haven't seen the movie in a loooooooong time, so I don't know, but the difference between a duel and a funeral is, well..... majorly different!

And what about the music? We should all get out our Dark Crystals and listen... does it sound like duel music or funeral music?

Will this solve the issue as to whether it's named incorrectly or not?

Well this is good news. I don't own the soundtrack as of yet but I've always loved the Gelfling Song and the Pod Party music.

Absolutely the tracks are named incorrectly. This may not be La La Land's screw-up ALONE -- they may have indeed received faulty information, perhaps from a twenty-five-year old typo, and assumed it to be correct. Nonetheless, it's a little surprising that no one intimately familiar with the film/score (and you'd expect such people to be involved with this project) caught the obvious error.

As for the publishing laws ... well, unless I'm mistaken, the ACCURATE track-titles are given on the original soundtrack LP and have been on the net for many years. One would think these titles would reflect Jones' final intention, whatever someone may have scribbled on a cue sheet.

Anyway ... the music is on store CD shelves for the first time ever. It's a disappointing error, but I suppose better released flawed than not at all.

I've watched The Dark Crystal tons of times, so I know for sure the title of track 6 is incorrect. When you hear this music in the film the Skeksis are duelling and the scene (also known as the trial by stone-sequence) takes place after the funeral-sequence which was shortened from the film (the Skeksis part of the funeral was deleted). The full music for the funeral scene can be heard on track 5. Also, on the original LP the track was called "The Skeksis Duel", so that should also be a reference.

But enough on this as far as I'm concerned. Let's listen to the music once again. It's fantastic stuff.
