I finally saw this movie on HD last night and it's way better than I remembered it. My wife and I were really into it. Tim Curry's performance was snakely sublime. The highlight for me was the very impressive Kamen score. There was one scene when all the Musketeers united again to fight against the Cardinal guards and the horn them swells for a couple of second then continue on with the action. One of the best moment in the film. Overall, the score was excellent. One of Kamen's best. The action scenes benefited greatly from the pulsing and thematic orchestration. And there were so much excellent, action stuff and dark material that was left out the official release. Someone should release it one of these day. A full 60 minute score album would be ideal.

Three Musketeers is a particular favorite of mine, and makes a nice companion piece to Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. The movie is terrific fluff. Skirts the real nature of "adaptation", but it's a heck of a fun ride. I think many of Kamen's scores would benefit from a deluxe treatment--I was hoping that his personal label would devote more attention to this, though his passing cut this short, though we did recieve Lethal Weapon from it.

I believe that the more complete Michael Kamen music we get, the better our appreciation. Someone's got to release the full score to this, though it's unlike since Disney owns it.
