I really need the money for school, so I am selling the collection I have been building so long. Lots of money went into it, haha. I am wondering how I can make the maximum amount for them WITHOUT ripping anyone off. Ripping people off is the LAST thing I want to do. I have a couple goodies, too. What should I do? Ebay, or here?

For Super Rarities--I'd ebay. If people want to be ripped, let em. Set an opening bid at a reasonable amount and see what happens?

For kind-of-rarities and everything else--send a list to used@moviemusic.com ...or you could try selling a big lot on ebay, but you'll probably get a better offer at MM, perhaps not.

Actually, my rarest ones aren't THAT rare. Back to the Future II, Commando, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Myst IV: Revelation.

All kidding aside (it's actually worth $40 to $50)... you can get reamed on eBay. If possible, list on Amazon. That's where higher income people shop and usually where I sell for the highest price. You're not ripping anyone off...

Is there anything you can do to hold on to your collection (e.g. a summer job)? Must be difficult to let go of your entire collection.

Please tell me you're joking? Same people shop at ebay as at amazon. They're both arguably the most popular online shopping hubs around.

BTTF Fan, email me and we'll work out something you'll like. Some people here can vouch for the ease of unloading everything in one bunch instead of the hassle of selling 50 CDs to 50 different people... and having AMZN and EBAY scrape lots of money off of the top.

Wow... Commando is the only Varese Club CD I've ever seen on Amazon. I would think all of the OOP ones would be on there with outrageous prices.

Thanks for your help guys, we all know how expensive college is. I will have to keep a few favorites.

Yah, college is expensive, so I'm not sure how selling off your CD college is going to put a noticeable dent in the total cost. It'll only go so far, and then you'll have to figure something else out. So, why not avoid losing your precious collection, and just figure that something else out right now?

Selling CD collection = bad idea. You're gonna regret it when you're through with college. I promise. Save yourself the pain. Be resourceful.

Well I guess it kind of depends on how big your are on artwokr and liner notes etc--I've copied everything to mp3 on my computer and only kept a few favorites--and its worked for me.

I really should back up my hard drive more often though, because if I had a crash, yikes, I'd be pissed. And lose a lot of music.

Anyone can make a listing for anything, I think. Theres plenty of listings that say "this page was created by a seller" (such as many of the Prometheus stuff)

Hence my "WOW"! Since any "pro" seller (Amazon's version of "pro" is defined as those who pay up more money to Amazon for more "benefits"... as opposed to pros like those in sports... who are paid zillions and get all kinds of benefits free!). Anyway, since any "pro seller" can create a listing on Amazon, you would think all of the OOP Varese Club CDs would be on there earning millions for "third party sellers."

Yeah, I need all the help I can get for college. This might be a small amount, but we'll see. I sent the list to Peter I think. We'll see what he has to say. It isn't much of a collection, but like many have said, I could back it up and make copies.

People at eBay are looking for a bargain whereas people at Amazon will pay what they have to pay. I would buy CDs on eBay for pennies on the dollar and sell them on Amazon for much more at a later time. Do you think older people are going to use eBay or Amazon as opposed to young people (hint: which is easier?)? Now, which of those two age group commands a higher income (hint: older people)?

BTTF, have you looked into scholarships or even a student loan?

Yeah, I am getting both but like I said, I need all the help I can get. I plan on keeping my most played scores....and I would rather sell my rare scores to any of you than to some random guy on amazon or ebay.

Be sure to at least back them up as mp3s - that way you don't lose so much out of this.

If you're going to archive in MP3 format, you should go ahead and archive in Apple Lossless format, or another flexible lossless format, to preserve that maximum quality you can w/o sacrificing the kind of file sizes a wav file can produce.

I agree don't sell your CD's if you can. You will regret it later on. I'm having to rebuy all the CD's I had because I didn't take care of em' before I moved in 2004 from Las Vegas and they all got destroyed one way or another. I've reboughten most of what I have but there are still quite a lot of CD's I still need to buy.

If you do still have to sell them be sure if you can to rip all your CD's on your hard drive on as mp3's high quality ones.
