Okay, I finally got the Karate Kid collection in the mail. Bill Conti is a genius, and his scores for these four films are awesome. I loved hearing how he incorporated themes into the first film's score that were later repeated in his pop song compositions.

    Question, though:

What is the name of the classical dance number that Ali and Johnny dance to at the country club? It's the same song that plays on the car radio in Part II with Chozen, and it's the music Miyagi uses to teach Julie how to dance in the last film.

    Any help please?

    JC

I downloaded Moonlight Serenade. It's not the right tune. I know them both very well enough to tell the difference.

    Anyone else help?

I donīt know the cds, the score or the movies, but maybe it is the MOONLIGHT SERENADE by Beethoven?

It's not classical music, like Beethoven, Bach, or Strauss. It's more like Lawrence Welk, Glenn Miller, or Percy Faith. Doesn't anyone know this piece I'm talking about?

rats, I coulda swore...I know I've heard the piece before outside of "Karate Kid", and I had that thought--(because I tend to identify music as having been featured in a given movie...e.g., "Oh, that song was in ~")

I don't have a copy of "Karate Kid" around--can someone link it or give a clip? I'm sure I could identify it....(I'm almost positive I've heard it on a Glenn Miller album, though....)

I was wondering where you guys have been getting you copies of the Karate Kid set? Is it all through Varese? I have heard bad things about their customer service. I have not seen it listed on Amazon. I purchased it through a guy on ebay but he has been jerking me around and not shipped, even after 2 weeks. So I dont even knoow if I will be getting it. I was looking for an alternative source.

    Thanks.

I've probably placed 50 orders with Varese and never had a single problem with their customer service.

My guess--and this is just a theory here, is that the e-bay seller was probably selling you a promise of an order, rather than an actual order...? (that is, the seller orders a copy, then sells it on e-bay for a mark-up...but he can't send it you until he receives it from wherever he ordered it.)

It's been a few months, and I still haven't had any luck finding the music. It should be common enough. It was featured in three of the Karate Kid films. I have trouble believing it was like "The Race" by The Matches, that they'd recorded in their garage, and the producers got their hands on it to put in the movie.

Again, I want to reiterate IT WASN'T MOONLIGHT SERENADE. I downloaded that song. It's got a big band sound, classy, not CLASSICAL. Picture a Hollywood club from the thirties, or your own upscale country club.

    Can anyone assist?

I found the song!! To any who care, here's the info I found on it on Wikipedia, that "dazzling" source of info:

"Fascination" is a popular song with music by F.D. Marchetti and lyrics by Dick Manning. Published in 1932, it was popularized in the 1957 movie, Love in the Afternoon.

The recording by Jane Morgan was released by Kapp Records as catalog number 191. It first reached the Billboard magazine charts on September 9, 1957. On the Disk Jockey chart, it peaked at #7; on the Best Seller chart, at #12; on the composite chart of the top 100 songs, it reached #11.

It was also recorded by Dinah Shore, Dick Jacobs, and David Carroll, all of whose versions made the charts. Paul Mauriat recorded an instrumental version of the song on his album Best of France. There is also a Portuguese language version, recorded by Elis Regina for her album Falso Brilhante (1976).

It is also featured on General Hospital numerous times, usually during Luke and Laura scenes.
