Well thought I'd start this months topic on this hehe. Anyways what all have you boughten for April?I just rebought the OST for Star Trek V: The Final Frontier... was pretty cheap so that's why I got it.
All I need to get now is the Anniversary CD for Star Trek TMP and Star Trek VI's score from the movies then I would have reboughten all the Star Trek film scores. I never had the Nemesis OST so that don't count as "rebought".

I am new to sound tracks. I have picked a couple dozen over the last six months or so. I have figured out I really Like Hans Zimmer.
This will be a Zimmer Month for me. I just got King Arthur and it now my favorite ST bumped the Last Samuria down a notch.I just ordered Crimson Tide and The Rock. I am thinking about ordering Backdraft and the Prince of Egypt also.

This sounds like something I would've posted back in the early 00s. Welcome to the wonderful world of motion picture soundtracks. I hope you're enjoying yourself so far with an introduction to Zimmer, and it only gets better from there; make sure that Zimmer's The Thin Red Line is somewhere on your future purchases.

Okay, so I took some time off, got my taxes back and now I've returned to purchasing for some heavy damage:DRACULA (1931), music composed by Philip Glass
- I've been a fan of this score since its release in '99. Though I've never owned it, I certainly have had my fair share of viewings of the original VHS tape that Universal re-released with Glass' new score synced to the picture. It's such a thing of beauty. This is also one of Kronos Quartet's finest works, if not their best with Glass. Very gothic and atmospheric, it doesn't skimp on anything it promises. A classic in my book and I'm finely very happy to own it in my collection.PROOF, music composed by Stephen Warbeck
- Is it wrong that I didn't own Shakespeare in Love before I set out to purchase Proof? I hope not. I read a few reviews of this one online and stopped reading after I read "minimlaist" and then proceeded to put this one in the back of my mind. After purchasing it yesterday and listening to it two times I can firmly say that Stephen Warbeck deserves a place alongside Glass and Michael Nyman as a film composer that works very well in the minimalist genre. Seeing as how the film is about a mathematical genius I can see how this approach suits the film, but this music seems like a piece on its own; a seperate entity if you will. Fans of Steve Reich will really appreciate this too.BLACK BOOK (ZWARTBOEK), music composed by Anne Dudley
-Attention Anne Dudley fans, why don't you own this yet? Fans of American History X will really appreciate this one; as I do. Great writing here, the orchestrations are amazing, and there is a great blend of action, suspense, and softer cues here. This is an early contender for best score of 2007 for me.ZODIAC, music composed by David Shire
-Attention David Shire fands! I shouldn't have to remind you to get this because I'm sure you've already gotten it and already noted how perfect every note of this is. A crisp reminder of why the Silver Age rocks the short hairs, this is. This is spine-chilling stuff, and we're quickly reminded why Shire needs to work a hell of a lot more. I love the opening of "Trailer Park"; it reminds me of Howard Shore's Crash score which is a very good thing indeed.PLANET TERROR (GRINDHOUSE), music composed by Robert Rodriguez, et al
- I saw this double feature experiment last week, and while I really didn't enjoy either film, I thought Rodriguez's film was highly entertaining. Probably the most entertaining film he's done. Part of that is due to his score work. This thing sounds so much like an original John Carpenter composition that I can't help but love it. There are some huge mis-steps on the album (Rose McGowan singing? Sorry Robert, I know she's your new honey, but she sucks) but this is a nice package and good for a few thrills. And at least he gives a lot of credit to his co-composers (Graeme Revell, Carl Thiel, etc.).

Well, I don't own Black Book yet because I've heard from more than one source that on the US release there's some kind of audio glitch on the track Escape by Sea, so I'm trying to do a bit more research before deciding where I want to order it from. Do you hear any clicks during that track on your copy?NP: Infernal Affairs (Chan Kwong Wing)

I'm listening now just for you (using iTunes); here's my analysis on track 17, "Escape by Sea":
Small click at the 0:11 mark . . . and that's all I heard. It didn't seem to bother me, even as I'm typing this.

Thanks, I think that's the sound people have been talking about. Good to hear it's not that bad, though I'm still leaning toward importing a copy from somewhere.I wonder if there's any chance for a release of Dudley's score to Perfect Creature. A Dudley score to a Sci-fi vampire movie sure sounds like it's got potential…

New for April... let's see.KARATE KID (Conti): I tried the first disc and wasn't getting into it. Fortunately, the second disc revived my interest! Still need to listen to discs 3 and 4...
THE VANISHING (Goldsmith): Uh, this was ok. Kind of boring and redundant at times. Has a great quirky theme, though.
MULAN DISNEY PROMO (Goldsmith): Hell, why not. Found it for $30 and it's pure Goldsmith goodness.
UNIVERSAL SOLDIERS (Franke): Best $1 score I've bought in a long time. Full of synth fun and delight.
LAST ACTION HERO (Kamen): Great Kamen score with some nifty guitar action.
SPECIES II (Shearmur): Great stuff! "Pursuit" stands out as my favorite track.
ENOUGH (Arnold): Big snore... probably will never listen to again in a long time.
V FOR VENDETTA (Marianelli): Who is this Marianelli guy? First score I have by him and I absolutely love it. "The Dominoes Will Fall" stands out with one of the best themes of whatever year it came out.

Undoubtedly the score that made many of us perk our ears in attention. The recording is a bit off, but I think it adds to the charm of the music. A must-have for any adventure/fantasy score fan. I consider Vendetta his best work to date (I chose it as my favorite score from last year and I absolutely loved last year's scores and films). While he's still a young composer, he's definitely earned his stripes on my meter. I eagerly await his next projects (an upcoming Neil Jordan thriller should be amazing) and I would consider him my favorite of today's young composers.

Great recommendation! I got this and am giving it a first spin. I do like Vendetta more, but this one doesn't fall far behind. Will have to give this some more listens before I can fully "digest" the sound.

That's what I like to hear! There's a lot going on in the music, so multiple listening are a must. Enjoy the talents of a new emerging composer!
