    Hey!

PoC 3 is coming out! I wonder if the score would be made by hans zimmer, the score for the second episode was just great.

I can't wait to hear that score...

Zimmer will score the third POTC. I think Soundtrack.net has an interview, where Zimmer talks a little about POTC3.

And while we're on the subject, check out the very entertaining trailer which was released today:

Towards the end there's a quite unique example of trailer music matching the action on screen perfectly

    Holy ****!

This movie is a must. I've not seen the Dead Man's chest, but I've seen the first one. I've only heard the score for the Dead Man's Chest. I was too busy preparing a trip. Those movies are a must. I promise I'll get em all before I die

And yes Camillu I've noticed that sword battle part when the soundtrack is perfectly matching the action...

I'll remain in the minority, but I still find Zimmer's Pirates score to be a bloated, monotonic wall of noise. The Badelt & Co score for the first movie had so much more variety. I've probably played Zimmer's score a dozen times. Lost count of how many times I played the first one.

Funny...that's what I thought of the second film. The Third film is subtitled: AT WORLD'S END. The second film felt like it should have been titled: AT FILM'S NEVER END. It just went on & on & on and then ended with a cliffhanger. By the time they got to that deserted island and the 3 way duel I was with Keira screaming for it all to stop.

I could have if I was brave enough. I saw her shopping in the West Hollywood Virgin Megastore around the time of DOMINO's release.

I'm with Bond1965. I loved the first Pirates movie, but I was bored with the second one. I just hope the third one will be as much fun as the first one.

Count me in with Joan and Bond; I enjoyed the second one, but it was drawn-out compared to the original. There were some great scenes, however. The trailer for part three looks promising (then again, so did part two's trailer). I'm really digging that atop-the-mast duel between Davy Jones and Sparrow; should be epic. I'm really liking Gore Verbinski as a director though after the first two Pirates and Mouse Hunt (an underappreciated comedy gem). It's too bad he got stuck with tepid projects like The Mexican, The Ring, and The Weather Man. The guy shows strong potential.

I too really enjoyed MOUSE HUNT.

The first Pirate movie delved into the characters and their idiosyncrasies. Marvelous comedy. The second Pirate movie was way too long and concentrated on CGI effects and a more epic canvas at the expense of those unique characterizations. I just hope the third one takes us back to personas and a coherent script that highlights characters over effects.

If many are against us, they must be right

Do you think the score for the first movie was better than the score for the second one, or the first movie was better than the second one?

The first movie was definitely better. I thought the music from the second one was better because Zimmer had more time to work on it. Badelt's score was pretty good given the time pressure he was under. The POTC theme is great.

Didn't Zimmer do a fair amount of work on the first Pirates score? I watched the second movie this past weekend (yes, it was TOO long and sometimes mind-numbing) and I noticed the music was very similar to the first score.

Zimmer did just as much on the first score as the second, but because he was contracted to another film at the same time he wasn't able to take his usual credit, so he had to settle for "produced by".

Wasn't that for The Last Samurai? Didn't he have some sort of agreement with Ed Zwick about not having any other projects that year or something like that...

Zimmer said he wrote all the themes in the first film and that if they suck it's his fault, hence the slightly different versions of themes from The Rock, Drop Zone, Gladiator, and Black Hawk Down all patched together by Klaus Badelt and his Imperial Stormtroopers.
