Just put in my copy of OUTCAST...wow!!!!!!!

I'd forgotten how BIG this score is...huge orchestra! I can't rave enough about this score. If you haven't heard it FIND IT and listen. This was done before the MEDAL OF HONOR series and blows those away.

NIGHTMARE CREATURES: best heard at night. VERY moody and cool... Reminds me of when I first got a Playstation!

The score to ENTER THE MATRIX the game. I was able to isolate the music in order to listen to the music on it's own and it's great!!!! If you loved the Matrix films (or even just the first one) this music is pretty cool. Some reworkings of the film music and rerecording. The game was so kinetic and hearing the score music folowwed by a hard hitting rave or rock beat song is great!

Giacchino's JURASSIC PARK game score is great! The Playstation cd plays in any cd player and it was like a 2 for 1! Very much a moody melodic homage to Williams' themes.

So what are your fave Game Scores? Which ones have I missed out on? I really only have these and am curious about all the game scores that I see out there but havent heard.

    Recommendations?

In that case I have to say that I loved the music that played in SUPERNINTENDO's ALIEN3.

    That was a FUN game!

So you all are mentioning a lot of titels I've never heard of. What are they like and would it be easy to find samples online to listen to like Amazon?

Well I'm a gamer way back from the dawn of the Console Wars! lol

Most of the ealier scores don't have soudntrack releases unless they were composed in Japan.

Giacchino's score to the first three Medal of Honor games (with Frontline being one of my all-time favorite scores).

Shore's SUN: Soul of the Ultimate Nation; pure amazement over the orchestral power of this thing. And it even has a theremin!

Harry Gregson-Williams', Norihiko Hibino's, and Rika Muranaka's work on the Metal Gear Solid series; some very solid action scoring.

The music from the first God of War; Zack Snyder should have used this as the temp for 300 that way many wouldn't be able to tell that Tyler Bate's can't be original.

The Devil May Cry series and many other by Capcom; some very cool design with synths and guitars. Good Japanese work.

As mentioned earlier, Gears of War; very brutal and epic. Some parts reminded me of Poledouris' Conan scores with thier boldness.

The Super Mario Brothers theme; 'nuff said.

    . . . and many others.

SUN: Soul of the Ultimate Nation was a phone-in from Shore; uninspired in my opinion. It felt like all the stuff that didn't make it into LOTR, and for a reason.

Gears of War was a solid, well produced score, but beyond that I can't recommend it. The music is pretty generic and musically grey. Nothing memorable, to say the least.

God of War is fun; the scores for both games are very entertaining.

I'm a bit biased, but Prey's score was quite good. Soundtrack.net wrote up a good review: http://www.soundtrack.net/soundtracks/database/?id=4404

Supreme Commander is also worth checking out. http://www.gsoundtracks.com/reviews/supremecommander.htm

I've always got the Mario and/or Zelda theme stuck in my head. Koji Kondo rules.

Obviously, I can't agree with you Mr. Moore; no love even for the wonderful theremin appearance! Hopefully you don't have the same feelings towards A History of Violence?

SUN has some good bits worthy of a compliation but I would'nt call it may favorite, and I think anyone who would is just a crazy Howard Shore fan.

Hey is it even possible to find music from Streets of Rage 1 and 2 outside the games?

    Hi guys,

Just thought I'd let everyone know that the soundtrack to God of War 2 is now available on iTunes. It was recorded with a live orchestra and choir in London and Prague.

    Cheers,

The score for God Of War II is a real butt-kicker...

    Great job, Cris and company!

Incidentally, I had to do a specific search for the soundtrack on iTunes as it didn't show up as a New Release title in the Soundtracks section...

Oh, it's no way my favorite and there are a few tracks I tend to skip over; but I do think it's a solid score. Thank you for the compliment, however.

Why is it that whenever I mention Enter the Matrix I get NO responses on that one ever? I remember even when the game was freshly out nobody ever really gushed like I do.

Am I the only one that loved that game? I love the films, I loved the idea behind the game tie-in and I loved playing the game. Granted Reloaded and Revolutions and Enter had their share of problems but hey...I just think they're all still pretty cool!

I didn't mean to ignore your mentioning of Enter the Matrix, but I can't acknowlege that score without critisim. Its a completly unmotivated knock-off of Don Davis' score.

"It was composed by Davis' assistant, It was supposed to sound like the original score ..." Bla bla bla, whatever! It was boring and unimaginative. And most importantly ...unlistenable.

Not a big deal Tim. I really just found it interesting that nobody really commented on it.

Yeah I know it's a rehash...but still I think his "assistant" did a pretty decent job overall. It is derivative definitely...but still fun. And an interesting listen on it's own. As most film scores remind me of emotions I felt while watching it THIS music reminds me of when I was PLAYING it i.e. "that was that *#@% level that took me FOREVER!"

I did not like that game one bit; it took me one night to beat and I popped it in again and didn't feel the need to be frustrated by all the bugs again. It's a shame, because Shiny really was a swell developer. It turned me off from playing Path of Neo but I've heard all around better things in regards to that game.

But I've moved onto my next-gen consoles and the only XBox games I have interest in revisiting are Half-Life 2 (currently beating it for the third time while I wait for BioShock) and 007: Everything or Nothing (another great video game score I forgot to mention).

I've heard over and over that ENTER THE MATRIX had bugs. I found it a pretty fun game...although I think the control of the character was off. I found the button combos difficult compared to other games.

What were other bugs you found?

I loved EVERYTHING OR NOTHING. Pretty cool attempt at a film and much more watchable as video game cutscenes than the horrible DIE ANOTHER DAY. I've still yet to find a copy of the score to EVERYTHING OR NOTHING.
    Anyone wanna part with it?

Kameo is still at the top of my game score list. Also near the top are Advent Rising, Jade Empire, and a few others. Most come off as too fractured (Halo 3) and even Gears of War. Though I do enjoy listening to Gears of War periodically.
