...and wow Mr. Eastwood. What a sloppy introduction. What is it with Hollywood stars introducing composers (or "scorers")?

Way to go, Gustavo.. umm..... not?

Yeah Eastwood's intro was pretty embarrassing. You can kind of tell he felt ashamed (I think), because he seemed to become progressively less at ease and jumbled in his presentation. I think it's obvious the guy adores Morricone.

At least Morricone seems to hardly grasp the English language. In this case, a good thing.

I would have (obviously) preferred another three to five minutes cycling through various Ennio cues from different films, rather than sit through an overlong (if sincere) rendition of a theme by Celine Dion, but what're you gonna do.

'Pan's Labyrinth' won a lot, though -- that was good to see. On the whole, though, I predict I'm going to reap more satisfaction out of the next half hour of 'Family Guy' than I did with that whole uptight "event".

I loved seeing Tom Hanks spontaneously mocking Chris Cornell, though (the guy is a shameless robot -- though seemingly unaware of his own behavior).

I didn't need to hear the poor translation; I could see it all on his face. He appeared genuinely moved and that made the other debacles of the evening worth it.

A real genuine dedication by Ennio to his wife.... it needed no translation if you were looking at him instead of Eastwood. You can tell the dedication was heartfelt as it weakened the corner's of his mouth, but then his strength of character took over as he held the statue out and up high in the direction of his wife.... I've never seen the Oscar statue held so perfectly still by a human. Really... go rewind and watch it again.

It's too bad this year's show was more boring than any I've ever seen. I hope too many people weren't watching, for their sake!

Looks like the lengthy bit of Mission included in the montage struck a chord with the audience... The Mission has jumped up to #21 on the overall music sellers list at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/new-for-you/top-sellers/-/music/all/ref=pd_dp_ts_m_1/002-2550927-2935239

In fact, sales of all Ennio Morricone albums have gone up. Sold quite a few compilations since Sunday, the first coming in just moments after the salute aired! Most have been for The Mission, true enough. It will always be a good seller.

And you know, it's nice to see two Morricone albums and Pan's Labyrinth on that list before seeing Babel. It looks like the dumb consumer knows true worth when they see it, unlike the Academy!
