There are a large number of films I haven't watched but whose scores I know very well. Loving a score doesn't necessarily make me want to see the film, though I usually eventually do. Some pieces, either because I think they're excellent, or because they're hard to imagine on screen, make me very curious to see the scene in questions.

I finally got around to watching The Abyss yesterday. The 'Bud on a ledge' theme has been one of my favourites ever since I got the Cinema Choral Classics compilation in my early days of collecting. And now I can finally put scenes to the music. I had to get through over 2 hours of the film (I watched the special edition, and liked it a lot) but it was worth it. The scene is just as great as the cue. Wading through Mission to Mars to experience the 'Where?' scene was much less fun, but just as rewarding.

    Others I'm very curious about:

The Hanging and Escape from Plunkett & Macleane.
Tarawa from Snow Falling on Cedars
    The Fire from Restoration
    Charging Fort Wagner from Glory.

Sometimes I'm very disappointed when I finally am able to put the music with the picture. The sound is drowned out or cut up into little pieces. I felt that way when I watched five minutes of Van Helsing (which looked terribly stupid).

Here are some scenes I wouldn't mind seeing:

    Lillian's Heart Attack - Brainstorm
    Theology/Civilization - Conan
    The Battle - Cutthroat Island
    The Egg Travels - Dinosaur
Riding The Fire Mares - Krull
Faith & Courage - Last of the Dogmen

    Just to name a few.

    Same here.

    Anyway...

Star Wars Episode I - The Duel of the Fates (NO, I'm not joking... I haven't seen any of the Star Wars except IV and V!)

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - No Ticket

    Dinosaur - The Egg Travels

Pride & Prejudice - Your Hands Are Cold

The Egg travels lives up to expectations. It's the opening scene of the film and was the first teaser trailer, so you can probably see it on apple or movie-list. I'm at work but will post a link tomorrow

I actually rented that movie the other day just to see how the music worked with it. It loved up to expectations. Very creepy.

as promised... here's a link. This was the first teaser trailer, which shows the first 5 and a half minutes of the film. It feautres the first 2 tracks on the album - The Inner Sanctum, and The Egg Travels. Size is quite small though.

Say what you will about Horner and Carmina Burana (I still don't think it's a direct steal), but the "Libera Me" part of "Charging Fort Wagner" cue (and scene) choke me up literally every time. I should listen to this again.

Goin' to have a good cry,
    Shaun

NP- Booker T. & The MG's - McLemore Avenue (Glory sounds like a great follow-up to this, right? I'll put it under the heading, "Booker T had the right to record this in the first place thanks in part to the 54th Massachusetts")

Theology/Civilization is in my top three all time favorite pieces. It definitely lives up to the music in a beautiful travel montage and the discussion of Theology between people. The Battle is very good too.

Is the first half of the track 'That Next Place' from Meet Joe Black a scene in the movie, or is it the end credits?

If it's a scene, then I'll add it to my list above.

Whenever I listen to the music from these scenes I have to watch the movies again:

He is the one - The Matrix
The Battle in the Ring - Brotherhood of the Wolf

Although it's cheating since I already had these movies on dvd!

I thought you meant scenes that are in the future.

I, for one, am dying to hear Dumbledore's Funeral in Half-Blood Prince.
And not least of all because I know that, after hearing OotP, Nicholas Hooper will reach deep down into the old barrell of musical clichées.

If we're talking scores in the future, after having checked out the website for Beowulf by Paramount I'm very interested in Alan Silvestri's score.

Especially during the scene when Beowulf meets Grendel's mother in the caves by the underground lake.

    Escape was underwhelming in execution.
Tarawa was very interesting and completely unexpected in term of visual.
Fort Wagner was pretty good. I'd say to with this first

For the Love of the Princess by James Horner from Braveheart comes to mind the most.

It's the montage scene that takes place after the love scene with Sophie Marceu. Probably one of Horner's finest moments.

Yesterday I finally sat down to fast-forward to the end scens of Nanny McPhee.

I know the film is delightful, charming, etc., but all I wanted to see was how Patrick Doyle's superb 'Snow in August' cue plays out on screen. I wasn't disappointed - it's left intact, heard in all it's glory with minimal sound effects or dialogue, and it certainly makes the scene. Great stuff.

Pride & Prejudice is one gorgeously shot film with a surprisingly wonderful performance by Keira Knightley, for whom I otherwise care little. The music doesn't tread any new ground, but it works well throughout the film.

An interesting idea for a thread! A few tracks I love that I've never seen in the film...

    Main Title/The Lion in Winter
The Barge She Sat In (Antony & Cleopatra)
    The Portrait of a Lady
Destruction of Cathedral (The Medusa Touch)
Here's To You (Sacco e Vanzetti)
    The Attack (The Blue Max)
