I don't know if this has been mentioned recently, but I just decided to see who's scoring 'Ghost Rider' (a movie I have no interest in seeing btw!), and saw Young cast.... Then I just looked at his filmography real quick (I've only heard a few Young scores, but they have indeed been solid), and I saw 'Spiderman 3'. I literally gasped a "what?" out loud. Then I thought, well, maybe he's co-composing with Elfman... Had to be. But, Elfman isn't listed at all in the IMDB credits...

What in the heck is the deal with this? Bizarre.

It was reported awhile back that Elfman had a bad experience with Spider-Man 2,specifically with director Sam Raimi. If I recall correctly,Raimi was too attached to the temp soundtrack. As it ended up,I thought that the sequel had a better score than the original film, with a more pronounced main theme.Wonder if Raimi will be so attached to Elfman's Spidey music to have Young use some of it in the third?

Chris Young did a few pretty good tracks for Spiderman 2. I guess either Elfman got sick of Spiderman music or the producers of the third movie decided Chris was a better choice.

It was actually reported by I believe Soundtrack.net that Danny Elfman is writing the themes for Spider-Man 3 while Young does the rest of the music. I guess Raimi decided it wouldn't be Spider-Man with out some usual themes. He's right though.

Maybe too Christopher Young figured he couldn't come up with how themes for specific characters would sound like so he asked Elfman to come in, then again that's just MY speculation.

From what I heard Elfman never wants to work with Raimi again. They might use Elfman's themes but he ain't writing a new note for Raimi.

Well, Elfman _said_ that he was not going to work for Raimi again... but now he is! My guess is that they backed a dump truck full of money up to his place.

Incidently, one of my assistant editor pals sent me some video clips of some of the unused cues from SPIDER-MAN 2 sunk up with the picture (including several that weren't on the CD!), and they really work wonderfully in the picture. Especially the train cue, which is miles above Young's last minute redux.

It's a shame that a lot of that material got bounced.

If anything this is all surprising to me, considering the two started working, what, on 'Darkman' back in 1990? Figured they'd be a duo that were intimate and had a long lasting friendship (like Spielberg/Williams -- though I don't know for sure).

Yeah, there's a bunch of that stuff all over YouTube (including, like, three or four versions of the train scene!). I think people are starting to do it using tracks from the 2-disc boot that's been floating around out there recently.
