Why in the world is silva re-issuing this?

Were the DVDs released recently or something?

Re-releasing this? I don't think its ever gone out of print...

You would be surprised at how well this album has sold for them.

Maybe they didn't like seeing someone else making more money than they by selling a used copy of the 1999 issue on amazon.com for $45?

I like the re-issue price, though.... we're getting closer to the $9.99 CDs every day!

Nothing should go out of print if it doesn't need to. CD releases should park it at $9.99 forever. But as Disney has "proven," making things go out of print and then repressing a few years later is a marketing miracle... at least in the days before the internet. Silva is catching on, but perhaps a little too late. The price is almost right, though!

The original was released almost to this date in 1999 (Feb 16), discontinued in summer 2004.

Young's Ghost Rider is on the slate for me; I'm positive it'll be a good warm-up for what he has in store for Spider-Man 3.

I can't wait for Harry Gregson-Williams' Number 23 next week; it's an interesting genre to find him in and the movie looks really demented. I've always looked forward to dramatic roles by Jim Carrey.

The A-Team has always been available to any of the speciality shops that order directly from Silva Screen. Whether they choose to carry it or not is another issue. We sold tons of these when I was doing the ordering at Super Collector.

Number 23 isn't a Feb 13 release, but we nonetheless don't need to be stiff propers around here. 23 is more ambient upon first listen. I have the thing on repeat this afternoon until I discover something really interesting about it. Not saying it's no good, it's just there. Kinda like K-PAX in many ways, but with more of a concert hall spatial recording. Occasionally I hear some modernized versions of instrumental music heard behind This Mortail Coil (4AD) projects. Not a bad thing.

Not a horror score, not scary... just "ambiantly" moody.

Mike, I am not here to nitpick. Silva reissued it, new UPC and all. Whether or not soundtrack specialty shops want to carry both now? I guess that's up to them. The more the merrier!

Ghost Rider's the only one I'm getting this week.

The week of the 27th is the one that's gonna hurt for me. I'll be getting both Breach and Nomad, and two of my most anticipated Japanese scores for 2007 are both getting released on the 28th.

Of today's bunch, only GHOST RIDER, which is quite good.

I don't want to nitpick, either. My post was really more about my own surprise at how well the CD has sold over the years.

I think what needs to be said is that it has never gone out of print *IN THE UK* There are many silva releases that have stayed in print longer on "Silva Screen" than "Silva America"

The US release went out of print some time ago, according to Peter in 2004.

I'm actually surprised that this album has sold so well Mike, considering it's a re-recording.

Do you know if their HILL STREET BLUES recording sold well as well?

    Also a good seller...

A-Team always sold big to non-soundtrack people, especially at conventions. Makes a great gag gift, I guess.

And, I have to say, Daniel Caine did a pretty good job recreating Mike Post's efforts for the show.

I'm still amazed at all the soundtrack titles that got released today. Looking forward to hearing Ghost Rider and Scott Glasgow's music for this Robotech soundtrack, among other things.

David Wishart mentioned in a thread on FSM that Daniel Caine was actually a psuedoname for Derek Wadsworth.

I don't recall the thread, it was something about how there was a theme that sounded similar to some other theme and there was a lawsuit brought against michael jones production....it was mentioned because another lawsuit was being discussed.

Anyway, the search function is buggy, and my memory isn't the greatest, but it was something about how they wanted all future "Daniel Caine" recordings to be identified as the same conductor if they were to continue with that series.

Mike I did some googling and found the answer:

    http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Jupiter/1630/dwint2.htm

    quote:

    39. What is the reason behind the use of the Pseudonym of Daniel Caine? I ask you this because on the selections you did for "The Cult Files" CD, the performance is credited to Daniel Caine but the credit for Musical Director is Derek Wadsworth.

I was foolishly persuaded to adopt this name by Michael Jones who tried to tell me that Derek Wadsworth did not sound international and would not sell. We all have to be a twit at least once in our lives!

Is this the same Derek Wadsworth who did the scoring for Year Two of SPACE: 1999?

Time to get a new optical prescription PK! I out "next week" following my hopefulness towards Number23. I went back and put it in bold. Don't worry, I'm smart enough to check the new release schedule every Tuesday.

Thanks for the mini-review. It sounds like the quiter, "sonic wallpaper" sections of HGW's regular stuff. I saw promtional photos from the film that feature Jim Carrey with a saxophone in his hands and I was hoping that HGW would incorporate that almost similar to Shire's score to The Conversation.

Yep. He also conducted (and credited as himself) the Prague Philharmonic for a CLINT EASTWOOD CD, the ROTA/FELLINI cd, and the Gerry Anderson tracks off the CULT FILES RE-OPENED.

The "saxophone" is there (trumpet really), shows up less than 30 seconds into the CD.... but it's very removed, nearly ancillary but not completely. It's faintly thematic.

Thanks PK; I just read the review on Soundtrack.net. Why can't they use a real saxophone instead of making a trumpet sound like a sax? I'll play for them for free anyday!

It doesn't sound so bad... and maybe adds to the disconnected feel of it all, which might be a point of the movie. Did soundtracknet go nuts (excuse me!) over this or something?

I just checked the review. Reviewer is not so upset over the fake sax it appears... but elsewhere there's a comparison with Veronica Guerin. Not helpful. Yeah, that score has orchestra in it, as do a few parts of 23, and HGW composed music for both, but these two scores are very far away from each other in the soundtrack universe, especially considering the films they are written for (from what I understand, a notion that holds significant importance at soundtracknet when discussing the music). I say stick to comparing it with Deja-Vu if you must compare....

    Finally found it....

Regarding "The A-Team" soundtack, besides the UPC code, the real difference in the 1999 Silva release and the 2007 re-release is Hannibal's front cover performance.

    Do you see it?
