Perhaps this will answer your question:

Oops, Grammys erred with two nominees

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Movie composer John Williams earned four Grammy nominations, not five as organizers originally announced this week, a spokeswoman for the music industry's most prestigious awards said on Saturday.

Williams, who already has 18 Grammy statuettes dating back to 1976 for his work on "Jaws," will compete against himself in two categories: score soundtrack album and instrumental composition, for the films "Munich" and "Memoirs of a Geisha." He appears to have been confused with conductor John McLaughlin Williams, a nominee in a classical category.

Additionally, rapper Ludacris' name was omitted from the news release that listed the nominees. He joins pop duo Gnarls Barkley, pop singer Justin Timberlake, R&B singer Beyonce, R&B producer/songwriter Bryan-Michael Cox, gospel artist Israel Houghton, rapper T.I., and Williams.

As announced on Thursday, R&B singer Mary J. Blige led the contenders for the 49th annual Grammy Awards with eight nominations, followed by Los Angeles rock band the Red Hot Chili Peppers with six. Winners in the Grammys' 108 categories will be announced in Los Angeles on February 11.

Wow, John Williams sweeps the Grammy awards. So much for two nominations in the same category equalling self-cancellization. The timing of these awards are so odd. Williams didn't write any movie scores in 2006, yet wins two Gs at the 2007 awards show. I guess I notice the oddity of it all every time the Grammy Awards come around.

Although I will say "hey what UP wit dat" to Yolanda Adams win for Best Gospel Performance. The eligibility period this year was October 1, 2005 to September 30, 2006... yet The Gospel soundtrack was released on September 27, 2005. Must be some loopholes I haven't seen/heard of yet.... or then again, maybe they meant to award the other song named "Victory" in the same category?!

Very pleased with Randy Newman's and James Taylor's win for "Our Town." I love that song, simple as it is.

Hmmm....maybe the song that won was released as a single after October 1st. That's how U2 gets nominated seemingly every year. Bastards.
