Now, onto what I quoted you on and a direct question pointed at me. As you may well know, Mansell's The Fountain ended up at the prestigious number three spot on my top 20 for 2006; so, off the bat, you know that I appreciate that score tremendously.I remember it being up there.

Incidentally, my revamped iTunes recorded 25 listens to THE FOUNTAIN album in December last year, so I definitely like the album, and certain tracks in particular.quote:
In the film, your arguements are valid. In fact, the sound mix at both of my screenings was so terrible that I can't help but blame the film and not the theater (being two different theaters). Especially considering the fact that I had heard Mansell's score nearly a week before viewing the film I knew when the climactic moments of the score would occur.I had it for nearly 2 months before... imagine what preconceptions that creates.

And yes, you must see Altered States. Have you heard Corigliano's score?I have and like this score a great deal, and must get around to seeing the film.

Have been listening to this score in the car for the past few days. I had (unwisely) neglected the CD when I got it last year, due to having a lot to listen to - I had simply put the 'Death is the Road to Awe' track on my jogging playlist and never heard the rest. Now I'm hearing the whole CD in track order and it's quite brilliant. Very unique score, and the way it builds slowly over each track before letting loose in track 9, and then having a beautiful coda, is masterful. Now I need to find time to see the film.

This movie is awesome, Camillu. One of the best of that year. Unfortunately, as with much of Aronofsky's work, it was ahead of it's time and thus, misunderstood and passed over...but the film is a great meditation on Life and Death. Very heavy.

I've always loved this score, and slowly my opinion of the film is changing too, I think. I need to see it again. But I still think it could have done without the "yoga in space" scenes.

Do you know what's weird...I just recently bought this soundtrack. It seems like a coincidence that I see this topic up. I can't wait to see the movie. (Yeah, I haven't seen it.)

Ahh...the resurrection of Fountain. I listen to this score often, but strangely only when I am writing because of its melodic droning. Don't get me wrong, I love this score but it would be lie to say it is a wellspring of creativity. As for the film...no comment. I will not watch it again. I understand all of the accolades certain folks give it, but this movie is far from entertaining. Sorry folks, like is dour and challenging enough, I don't need that kind of morbid crap in my film going. I also do not hold a fascination with lazy storytelling cloaked in a veil of supposed surrealism and intelligence. I do give D.A. credit for making the most of a limited budget, but that is about it.

Despite moving from the post before, I think this has an awesome soundtrack. The end of "Death is the Road to Awe" is just so epic. It's so cool.[Message edited by Aman from Middle-Earth on 10-07-2008]

Saw the film last night.Still not sure I understood all of it, but some selected online reading afterwards clarified a few points. Still, there's no denying that it gets top marks in the music and visuals department. I enjoyed and appreciated Requiem for a Dream much more though.
The use of 'Death is the Road to Awe' lived up to my high expectations.

Well, I'm sure the folks who funded the picture were hoping that it would entertain on some level.Interestingly enough, the movie was on Cinemax last night and I watched the 2nd half. I understand the movie, the message, and the metaphors expressed with the Tree of Life and the Last Man. Still, the movie feels overly contrived in communicating a very basic message.

I think for me PI is the only Aronofsky film I've outright enjoyed so far. REQUIEM is very well put together, but I found it an experience I never desired to repeat, and since then I've struggled watching films that feature extensive drug abuse.THE FOUNTAIN was a film I really wanted to like, but was disappointed by. Understandle, given that the hype was considerable. I didn't go with it. It beat me over the head trying to get me to feel for the characters, but the feeling wasn't coming.

One of the worst films I saw that year. The score was O.K.--IMO, Mansell talks a lot of s-h-i-t about film music as opposed to what he comes up with himself. I was laughing out loud in hysterics where Hugh Jackman was talking about monkey D.N.A.--outrageously funny.
