I just finished putting together a "special edition" of John Williams' The Reivers (for my own private delight), BUT since I have never seen the 1969 movie itself I'd like to have some answers from you expert guys & gals who may have seen the movie.

I'd like to know how well the complete score is represented on the original soundtrack album (the Columbia/Sony 1995 CD release; and I believe the ancient Varese Club release had the same contents without the Columbia extra track)? I'm asking this because there are several cues and themes on The Reivers concert suite (recorded by Boston Pops in 1990/91) that can't be found on the original soundtrack album.

What I would especially like to know are the concert suite segments, the jaunty "First Car In Town" and the magnificent "Horse Race" to be found in the original MOVIE, or were they created for the concert suite? The concert suite, as a wholeness, seems notably more symphonic and elegant - and it is quite a different representation of the original score than the soundtrack album.

Nevertheless, when the concert suite highlights and the original soundtrack are put together with the National Philharmonic Orchestra's recording of the "Overture" (released on Varese), the end result is quite an enjoyable experience of Williams' Reivers music. However, as I'm always searching for authenticity (towards the original works), I'd like to know was the original complete score as richly thematic and symphonic as the concert suite claims?

    Thanks again in advance!
