It's a tribute album.... rock dorks are doing their own versions of songs, to be released on October 24, around the same time the 3D version of the film arrives in October.

    quote:

"The songs in the film are pretty much the best things ever," says Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy. "They're Elfman at his prime. And our song "Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner" blatantly rips off a crescendo from one of them. They're absolutely amazing."

I've seen these names associated so far: Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, Fiona Apple, Marilyn Manson and She Wants Revenge.

Well... Fiona Apple's good. The rest, less so.

Actually, it's not only a tribute album. It's a rerelease of the original soundtrack (with some demo cues a la the one on Music for a Darkened Theatre, Vol. 2). The cover songs are all on disc 2. This looks very exciting, and although I'm pleased with the existing Disney release, I guess I have to shell out for this one as well.

You know what's cool about the songs on the second CD if I end up buying what I think is Elfman's most fun score? I don't have to listen to them (but, like AI pointed out, Fiona Apple really isn't that bad and I wouldn't mind hearing her beautiful voice over some trademark Elfman music)!

Just saw Marilyn Manson perform 'This Is Halloween' on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Great exposure for the film, but no mention of Elfman.

I know you guys are going to hate me for saying this, but I like my share of rock, to include Fall Out Boy and Panic! At the Disco. It'll be interesting to hear!

I quite like the songs, and the Elfman demos are worth it alone.

I actually think Fiona Apple's dreary perf of "Sally's Song" is pretty damned bad. While I am no fan of them, Fall Out Boy and their clones, Panic! At The Disco are much more faithful to the fun-loving spirit of the originals.

Well, I broke and bought it when I saw that there were 4 demos by Elfman (one previously released).
Gotta admit, it's quite good and I'm glad I picked it up.
