....needs a score release, and not on iTunes only.

Isham doing a Disney inspirationaly sports flick actually does sound intriguing. I'll have to agree with you on that one PK.

Isham's quickly becoming the number 2 when it comes to best composer for sports flicks.

Jerry Goldsmith will always be #1 solely for his Rudy effort, and Randy Newman #2 for his Natural score. Trevor Rabin crept up the ladder with his Remember the Titans, but it doesn't seem to have the holding power as the two just mentioned.

But Isham, now, he's done three or five (depending on whether or not you call long-distance geese training or building houses a sport) really exceptional sports/adventure scores with fantastic thematic material. It's a shame there is no official release for one of them, and only a download version for another. True shame.

I don't have too much Isham in my collection, but I recently added Racing Stripes and I love it. Lot of fun with a great action theme.

Rabin also did Glory Road which unfortuantely has not been released.

JJH, you are one helluva lurker.

I'd say Mystery Alaska has a great score too, but you know what? I really felt the Pogues song there at the end was the most poignant of all. Dunno why.

When given the chance again on The Rookie, Burwell turned out more folksy than inspirational. That said, he's not near the tops for me as far as arousing those big sportific emotions. Sportific should be a word.

I should recognize the sarcasm... how the hell could anyone remember it, especially without a CD release that helps such remembering?? My problem is two-fold: 1) I remember 2) A couple of people in this forum (could one be JJH??!) will never let us forget... just search "Mystery Alaska" in the message board search and you'll see who the other person is!

There's no reason the score isn't released by now, what with all these freakin' 1000-unit limited editions. No one's making much money off these anyway, so throw us a bone already. Heck, do a 500-unit LE.

See you in a few years, lurkmaster.

The other person was me. My campaign to raise hell to get this score released led me to this community -- although I think it was somewhere else back then and Peter was called Dr Tunes or something like that.

Someone sent me recordings of the main and end titles and I've got them on a CD with some other stuff -- so I've been moderately satisfied.

I would agree with PK, though, that Burwell is not a contender for great sports movie theme composer. He's mostly a one shot johnny in this particular genre.

I'm looking forward to seeing Invincible and beginning a whole new quest to get a great score released. Heck, lost causes are a specialty with me.

did I send you that CD?

I must have, seeing as how I was a Burwell fanatic for a time. Well, I still am.

ha! I posted two days in a row here!

    wow!

I wonder if SearchFeature is still around?

REMEMBER THE TITANS is just about my favorite Rabin, but it's kept from true glory since most of the cues using Rabin's "Titan Spirit" anthem just kind of peter out, without providing a solid, triumphant finish.

Had he come up with one version that had ended with that ultimate orgasm, he might have had a standard that would show up on endless TV sports events and in every other sports movie trailer.

    JJH:
I didn't get a CD, you may have e-mailed me the .wav files, though. It's been a long time. I know I thanked whoever sent it to me -- if it was you -- thanks again.

Vinylscrubbers's comment on a theme that shows up endlessly on TV sports events reminds me of the theme for The Adventures of Briscoe County Junior. It shows up regularly on NBC Sports -- mainly Olympic stuff.

This is another great piece of music that needs to be released. I got a .wav file of this, too, from somewhere. It's on the same CD as Mystery Alaska. It's my "Never Released Movie Music CD."
