David Shire has been hired to compose the music for David Fincher's new film, ZODIAC!Most refreshing assignment so far this year, IMO.

That is too cool. Hopefully everything goes through so this actually happens.I keep meaning to order Shire's Conversation score, because I love it in the film, but spending 20 plus shipping on mostly piano, no matter how brilliant, is hard to justify with all these full orchestral scores still left unheard.

Well, since it's Fincher I was hoping for another brilliant Howard Shore score; but I've heard nothing but great things about Shire. His score existing in The Conversation is one of the strongest points of that film. I'm trying to recall what the music was like in 2010 but nothing is coming to my mind; does anyone own it and know?

nuts, you must listen to his brilliant score for The Taking Of Pelham One. Two. Three! It's easily one of the best scores EVER composed... FSM is maniacal about this score, and for good reason.[Message edited by sean on 08-07-2006]

I recently got a copy of the Conversation and, while expensive, is worth it for the main theme.AI, if you'd like, I can send you an mp3 of the main theme to tie you over.

Certainly! That would be very appreciated. The email on my profile is still current. It really is a great film and score, though the film does drag in the middle warehouse scenes (and the dream sequence is absolute 70s excess). Shire's dissonant music for the hotel sequence is exquisitely unnerving.

F*cking RIGHT. This is the best film music assignment I've heard since Schifrin did Rush Hour. Sounds weird, but the return of someone of Shire's caliber, and having the film be set during the period of his best work.....man, I have to change pants.Shaun

Just got this album. While I agree with all the others who have said it's not an easy listen, I can't help but admire the focus of this score. Like Shire says in the liner notes, the premise for the score is irresolution and sure enough, he follows through on it, going so far as to quote Ives's "The Unanswered Question." Clever, and fitting. But aside from all that, there's just something cool about having a modern David Shire album sitting on the shelf.
