Came across this somewhere:quote:
James Horner, a two-time Academy Award-winning composer, has composed the new musical theme for the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH KATIE COURIC, which debuts on Tuesday, Sept. 5 (6:30-7:00 PM, ET). The musical theme will also be integrated into other CBS News programs over time.Ok, so list your questions now. I'll start:

Will Couric get the Borg theme?

Will CBS report fake news that the theme is "original"?

Is CBS news more like William Wallace, an Apollo mission, or Titanic?

Pete, it's so sad that nobody is responding to this thread, so here I am to give my two cents. It's going to be "Gaining Access To The Tapes" with added shakuhachi blasts and the danger motif, with the Apollo 13 Main Title drums leading the way.
Ten bucks.

Maybe CBS will can his "original" theme and replace it with a Wagner piece; I'd like that.

I think it will be closer to "Brainstorm."

Well...at least no one's being cynical about it.I'm somewhat interested in the theme (Horner hasn't done too much television), as well as the circumstances of how he got hired.

CBS deserves the danger motif for its news division. All kidding aside, I hope it's a great theme.

I wasn't going to watch Katie Couric anyway but now I have more reason to channel surf around her.And all of you think the theme is going to be some recycled action cue but with Katie as the anchor they may want something a little more feminine so expect Celine Dion samples on top of it all.

I think "Circus" from We're Back: A Dinosaur's Story will fit quite nicely.

Heard it and honestly, it's good! I'm not sure what anyone else could have expected from James Horner. It's warm, catchy, compliments Couric quite nicely, and manages to stay away from sounding like anything else. There's a hint of Apollo 13 and Glory, but nothing incriminating. It's unmistakably news-genre music, but ultimately enjoyable. Definitely not as sharp-edged as Williams' The Mission (a favorite of mine).Good job, Jamie. Let's hear the full-length concert arrangement!

I thought it was rather bland and unremarkable. One thing that stood out for me was the incredible length that they held that note just before the first commercial break. It was like Horner ran out of ideas and decided to fill out the time with a couple of tied whole notes. No problem, though. I stopped watching after that and will probably never tune in again.
Maybe the closing bit was better . . .

CBS apparently had to scrap the whole last segment tonight thanks to a tech meltdown, and filled the void with Couric standing on set forever, and the longest showing of Horner's theme yet!

That's pretty funny. Wonder what kind of technical glitch it was though that allowed them to run the CBS promos, credits, music, but they couldn't (or wouldn't) just stick a CBS News logo on screen like others do.Although it's good for those of us who never bothered to listen in on the CBS News to hear Horner's theme. Not bad and better than most, but I definitely preferred the old version.

As long as its not a slamming piano and anchor/russian bell noise in there.

Nice theme and it was nice to actually a long version of it, one part reminds of the Apollo 13 theme, I love that theme so thats great for me.
