You might have never heard of the 46 year old Argentinean composer, but he’s actually assigned to score the new Francis Ford Coppola film, Youth Without Youth.More info: http://scoremagacine.com/Noticias_eng_det.php?Codigo=146

I trust Coppolla, he's got a great ear and he's finally making a triumphant return to cinema after the abysmal Supernova. All we can do is wait and see (and hope someone knows who this new guy is).

At the very least it will be highly interesting to hear.

Bit harsh to blame him for Supernova... he was only in charge of post-production as I recall.

I agree, nuts_score is going a little crazy these days: Supernova ain't that bad there, dude, and don't put all the onus on FFC, as he was not the only director involved.NP: Hans Zimmer's "Battle In The Air" ********/********

From the little I've heard of his music so far, Golijov rules. He's become a pretty respected concert composer in recent years and actually just got a residency (along with Mark-Anthony Turnage) around these parts with the Chicago Symphony, so I'm looking forward to hearing some of his music in concert as well as in Coppola's film. This is an exciting assignment.Kirk

Okay, okay, I'll admit my dark guilty pleasure for anything with James Spader in it; but I do blame Poppa Coppolla for The Rainmaker (I just hate John Grisham). But, either way, he's still one of the largest influences on my directing style, so, I love him anyways (his wine ain't bad either

)I like The Rainmaker... I know it's incomparable with the director's early masterpieces, but it's highly entertaining, I think.
FFC is the only director to have three films in my top ten.

So I guess it's up to me to remind everyone about Jack? No, in all seriousness, I'm excited about the new film. My favorite Coppola is actually Rumble Fish.

Crikey, please don't mention Jack.I like Rumble Fish too, though my favourites are the first two Godfathers, The Conversation and Apocalypse Now (predictable, huh?) I do like aspects of Godfather III and Dracula, but they're both clearly flawed.

And Dementia 13 is a great little horror film that Coppolla did for a fellow by the name of Roger Corman

What an interesting assignment. Golijov has actually worked in film before… the Sally Potter film The Man Who Cried (with Johnny Depp)… but this should be quite unique.I’m very much a fan of his Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind, which may not be particularly filmic, but is a fantastic piece of music.

Deutsche Grammophon's page for this score has been up for a while:
http://www.deutschegrammophon.com/special/?ID=youthwithoutyouthThere's a promo video (which I can't watch due to some problem I'm having with streaming video) and if you look at the track list you'll find 1-minute clips of every cue on the album. I've listen to about a third of them so far. I think the score sounds fantastic, personally. Very much in a world of its own design.
