Neil Norman is still alive??What could possibly be on another sci-fi volume? I thought he recorded the themes to just about everything there was already....

There's been no sci-fi since 1999?These NN discs are a joke, and perhaps that's why people buy them. Priced what they are worth ($9 or less), people will buy just for the laughs.
Just barely thinking, here's some raw meat for NN's teeth:
The Matrix
Donnie Darko
Revengo de la Sitho
The X-Men
Battlestar Galactica TV redos
Doom!
Fantastic Four
Harry Potters
Sin City
War of the Worlds
Zathura
Alien vs Predator....The list goes on.
Preferably, we'll get "The Thaxton Nebula Strikes Back" too.

That's the thing about these Neil Norman efforts. Even if they are weak synth re-records he finds one of two items that you'd like to hear that haven't ever been done. In this case Stanley Black's music to The Crawling Eye, Bernstein's music to Robot Monster, and Barry Gray's music for Journey to the Far Side of the Sun.

Time to stock up on earplugs. Another Neil Norman Nightmare!>>>>>>>>>>Even if they are weak synth re-records he finds one of two items that you'd like to hear that haven't ever been done.
That's like saying you'd rather eat out at a lousy restaurant than eat at home. Why would you want to hear awful and unfaithful arrangements at all? Wouldn't you rather just hear the real thing in the film with dialogue and sound effects until a GOOD re-recording comes along? Are people THAT desperate for film music that they're actually anticipating rotten film music? I've heard Norman's "takes" on these things and they're horrendous!

horrendous? Star Trek Encounters is fun and his babylon 5 arrangement with guitars is kind of neat. I have all four volumes and there's some cool stuff on there. He succeeds most when he tries to re-arrange, and not just try to re-create an original arrangement thru synths.IMO anyway.

Trust me Firefox, I agree with you absolutely. I'm very fussy when it comes to re-recordings of music and Neil Norman versions are never what I had in mind. I guess what didn't come out so clearly in my first post is that he tends to find things that I've wanted to hear done well for a long time that no one has gotten to yet. That doesn't mean I'm thrilled he is the first one to do them.

From GNP forums http://gnpcrescendo.com/forum/index.php?topic=2.0quote:
The artwork has been printed and the CDs are being pressed and assembled as we speak.

I received it today. Not bad.Never thought I'd get the theme to the animated X Men series. This arrangement kicks major ass. I love this theme, its so much better than the crap theme in Kamen's X Men, better than Ottman and Powell's too.
The Back To The Future arranagement is cool with some e-guitars at the end.
Vol. 4 is still my favorite. But this one is cool just cause its the first in such a damn long time, and theres lots of tracks unavailable elsewhere.posted 03-16-2007 06:04 PM PT (US)

Just FYI, that X-Men theme is on this CD that came out in 2001. It's the original recording. If you watched a lot of cartoons as a child it's a really fun compilation.Kirk

"If you watched a lot of cartoons as a child it's a really fun compilation."Does that mean if one developed brain rot from overexposure to TV, and cartoons in general, one might therefore find some enjoyment in this release?

Well, I was talking about nostalgiac enjoyment. But to actually enjoy the music for the music's sake, yes, there would probably have to be some brain damage.

Wow, tj... I didn't think the NN albums were worth writing about. You turned in quite a lengthy, respectful review!

You are the biggest NN fan!And yes, back in the 80s, when those three NN albums were all over the place... it's all we had. Arghf.
