Disagree. It's not the worse score of the year.

I know, I said it's ONE of the worst scores of the year, not the worst.

Oh yes, and Sean I understand you're loving the music so you defend it heavily but I'm glad we're in somewhat agreement that you are being a bit too agressive. No offense to you, I lika ya'..you're just a little to aggressive for me (in a totally non-sexual way!)

3 Fast 3 Furious is an excellent score to a dreadful film: buy the music, ignore the movie.

With Battlestar Galactica, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised: its the best show on television, hands down, and is played out more like an extended film rather than an episode with a fixed ending and so on... Bagtatta, if you'd like some samples, I'd be more than happy to share them with you: just email me.

HAHA! I didn't know there were two pages! Yeah, I did overeact to sketch's ignorance (not an insult, just an observation) towards Battlestar Galactica, music and show, so I posted something a little more compelling than insults towards sketch; I hope he reconsiders the show and the score.

And yes, Poseidon is the worst score of the year. Klaus Badelt is probably the worst or least interesting composer working in Hollywood (I know nutso agrees) today.

Sean: Badelt is not the absolute worst. I thought he did a good job on The Time Machine and Equilibrium. On an unrelated note, do you have any idea when there will be new releases of Stargate? It'd be awesome to see a "Best of" for every season of SG-1.

Franz_conrad: Please do find some time to check out BSG. I think most or all of it is out on DVD now.

As for the score for season two, it's far more than thumping noises. When I popped it in, I was blown away by "Prelude to War." It depicted the scenes so brilliantly and added a sense of suspense that couldn't have been achieved any other way. Hell, I thought the guitar music during the Pegasus scene ("Pegasus") was cheesy, but listening to it on the soundtrack changed my mind. It brought back the awe and wonder that was the goal of the scene (the arrival of another battlestar). "Allegro" was a fine revival of "Passacaglia" from season one (which also did a superb job at depicting the opening scene of the episode).

I think critics are right about BSG music in that it really connects with the audience. However, even if I weren't a fan of the show, I'd still consider McCreary and Gibb's music a fine addition to my collection.

    Stargate:

I agree, Equilibrium is a solid score, probably Badelt's best, but The Time Machine sounds like he was forced to copy Jerry Goldsmith's main theme from The Edge, and there's some Hornerisms in there, as well (Sneakers comes to mind).

I could be mistaken, but I think this is the interview where Joel Goldsmith talks about further Stargate scores getting a release, including your desired SG-1 compilation:
    http://www.thescifiworld.net/interviews/joel_goldsmith_01.htm

Its funny about the Pegasus guitar intro theme from Battlestar Galactica: in Cinéfantastique, Jeff Bond had the same reaction to it, that it was "cheesy" music (he also didn't like Michelle Forbes as Admiral Cane, so that says a lot about his opinions for the show). When I first saw that episode guitars had been sparingly used in the show (mostly during the Helo/Boomer separation scenes from season 1), but my first reaction was, That's awesome! I'm a HUGE metal fan, so I was drawn into it pretty easily (and its a damn fine theme) and thought that it definitely meant something special for the show, and the introduction of Battlestar Pegasus was certainly a hard left turn for the program.

"Allegro" is a nice conclusion to the "Passacaglia" theme from Kobol's Last Gleaming Part 1. Its very fitting that McCreary chose to score the beginning of Home Part 2 with the "Allegro" theme, as the story-arc from Kobol's Last Gleaming ends with Home Part 2, wrapping up what should have been the end of season 1 mid-way through season 2.

The music on the show is great, and you're right, "Prelude To War" is astounding! It works wonders, jumping from the Galactica vs. Pegasus themes and then builds on them through the beginning of Resurrection Ship and onto the huge battle in Part 2 with a strong conclusion: COOL!

I actually felt chastened by Sean's heartfelt write-up to the point where I went to McCreary's website and listened to/watched nearly everything Galactica related. I'm sorry but this stuff is truly boring and I hold to my opinion that it's nothing more than a lot of thumping and ethnic meandering. The orchestral elements are dull (ie the string writing in Prelude to War amounts to 2 measures of textural filler repeated ad nauseum). And has anyone noticed that the main recurring 4 note motive is from Horner's score for Sneakers?

Haven't stuck around long enough to get a sense of the music as I channel surf my way past soap operas of those multi-colored space beings with so many lumpy heads.

Sorry, couldn't resist... it's a standing joke at home. "Why is everyone's head so lumpy on that spaceship?"

Still waiting on favorite new score for '06

Well, that actually isn't a standing joke at all, because there are no aliens or "multi-colored space beings" on Battlestar Galactica, nor will there EVER be.

I guess you're assuming anything with the word "star" in it means aliens and slimy creatures (that's typical of the Friends/24/Prison Break crowd, and plus, you know what they say about assumptions... ).

Scorro, sorry, you're out of your element.

Maybe he meant Edward James Olmos.
