Oh, I think I would just be repeating myself at this point. But you spelled Horner wrong, it's spelled Whore-ner at all times & in all cases.

He's been working on this for a while now, hasn't he? I remember reading in Enterainment Weekly a month or so ago that the film was delayed because of editing issues, and Horner "tweaking" his score.Clayton

Rumours are swirling: Whore-ner feels the score needs a more Russian sound, so he's gone back to the old Russian master classical music composers for inspiration...

Cool!I've been pushing Rimsky-Korsakov's music for years to friends. This might be finally the day that more people hear some of his orchestral suites.

Incidentally, what would you recommend? I've tried listening to R-K's stuff, but he seems to be just about the only Ruskie I can't get into for some reason. I seem to be the only person on earth who finds Scheherazade completely unengaging, for example. Given that information, are there any other must-hears you'd point out to me, or should I just wait for this new Horner score? [Message edited by James on 07-02-2006]

Always a good place to start is the classic Jarvi/RSNO recording of suites: http://www.classicstoday.com/review.asp?ReviewNum=10118 Probably the easiest available, best performed, and cheapest set on the market, although better individual works can be had elsewhere. And there's no way you can hear the Ormandy or Jansons Scheherazades and not like them. No way. None. Impossible.

Touche Mr. Goldberg! I also might like to point out that Dan has photos of the scroing session at that link I provided. See how Horner doesn't seem to age!

James Whore-ner: Is he a boy, or is he a man!?! That girly voice he's got is something else, I tell ya'! (Hopefully, Goldasser can shed some light [yes, I know you're reading me post Daniel!] on this important question.)

Oh boy, I cant wait. Another great score with the Russian bell/anchor in the action cues and a good Celine Dion vocal to fit. Man, what a score it will be. J.

Whore-ner hasn't aged huh? I don't remember him ever scoring a version of The Picture of Dorian Gray. Of course, if Whore-ner sold his soul to the Devil, that would explain a lot wouldn't it?

Well, Lou, like the Ewoks, Horner doesn't blink ... which leads me to the conclusion that boy-in-man's-body James Horner is souless.

This Horner bashing gets old. There are plenty of people who to enjoy his music. What you guys also have to remember is that a composer is hired for creating something that THEY (the director) wants to hear. As such, all composers "rip themselves" off. Even Goldsmith and Williams do it. Horner's got style like everyone else, just get over it and move on. For film music composers who are regarded almost like an after thought, people making fun of their music is degrading and honestly, if you bash the people that make the music...how big a fan are you really? Sure there are composers I'm not thrilled with, but I never bash them like you guys bash Horner.Just some food for thought. --Brian NP: Prey - J and J

. . . which is why Horner should take some time off and write a really outstanding concert piece that will keep us off his back. Just make sure you take his bells away!

AAAAAAAARRRRRGHH! The stupid argument again! See that's the one that gives me an epileptic attack. Horner has a style. Yes. HIS STYLE IS NOT THE PROBLEM! If you think it's a "style" to rip other people off without credit, then you need some serious ethics lessons. And the guy with the style needs a couple of lawsuits up his cheating ass.

With all due respect Brian, and regardless of Horner-bashing, this argument (which I've obviously seen in many places besides your post here) doesn't make any sense to me. If you're fanatically devoted to the music of Thelonious Monk and Charlie Parker, that doesn't mean you also have to show the same respect to the music of Kenny G just because he's also shelved in the jazz section at Borders; being a fan of early Soviet cinema doesn't mean you can't call Eisenstein horribly overrated; being a democrat doesn't mean you have to like Michael Moore. Better yet, come to Chicago some time and ask a baseball fan whether they like both the Cubs and the Sox. Varied and discerning tastes are good in my book. They make life much more interesting. Without them, every discussion on this message board, for example, would consist of one person saying, "I'm looking forward to this score" followed by 50 people saying, "Yeah, me too!" I wouldn't hang around for that. Then again, someone posting "Horner sucks!" followed by 50 people saying, "Yeah, I agree!" is probably just as bad. Kirk NP - Juliet of the Spirits (Nino Rota)
