I know some of the Silver Screen re-recordings can be a little harsh (and the reviews of them!) but I'm really enjoying the 4 CD set issued by PrimeTime / Silva Screen.
Just wondered what anyone else thought? There's so much on there it's definitely worth exploring.
I hope we get a "complete" Fall of the Roman Empire" sometime too..

I like this set too. If you're a Tiomkin fan, this is an enjoyable set to own.

This set comes highly recommended indeed, and it's one of these rare cases where I play the dics with the songs more often than the score discs.

Favorite Tiomkin Score: The Fall of the Roman Empire. Runnerup: Lost Horizon.

Huh!

There are several on this that I liked. Very much liked the War Wagon and DeGuella music in Rio Bravo that he expanded on for the Alamo later. Tarzan and Mermaids though left out all the best music. The pursuit music early in the film and the music later in film withe swimmers was all pretty much missing. Only one short clip of the pursuit heard in there, just a few short measures. Need the complete score done to this 1948 and final film that Weismuller did in the series where he dove off the cliffs at Acapulco. Pretty good stunt for an old guy.

J.

BTW, Laurence, I really liked some of the extra Alamo music on that Foster CD a few years ago. Lots of the missing battle music was on there, although some of it sounded different it was pretty good. J.

Great Box set! Not just practically all Tiomkin's well known scores but obscure titles like TENSION AT TABLE ROCK and THE WELL and his rejected music to THE WILD WILD WEST! What more can you ask on 4 Cds ?
