I could almost swear that once upon a time I bumped into some kind of CD release of John Addison's score to the television movie PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1990) - (the one that Arthur Kopit wrote since his and Maury Yeston's mega musical didn't take wind under its wings). Last night I tried desperately to locate specific soundtrack from the net, but couldn't find anything.Does anyone know if the soundtrack CD really exists (or existed once, somewhere in time) - or have I dreamed a dream again?
And is here any person who has seen the television movie and can tell me if the John Addison score is something essential to the movie (as Addison's works seem always to be)?

Yes, this score exists on CD, though on some off label I'm unfamiliar with. In fact, I have a copy. I don't think it is still in print. You can always check Footlight or Screen Archives because you never know what they have on their shelves.I never saw the actual TV movie. It must be a real curio what with an aging Burt Lancaster as the star. In fact, it's been a while since I've played the score. I recall it being rather low-key for a horror film. Addison did a lot of TV work from the Murder She Wrote theme to a number of mini-series and TV films.

Here's some information on the CD from soundtrackcollector.com, but of course that doesn't help you in actually finding a copy:

I have the soundtrack and I saw the mini series with Charles Dance as the Phantom.Sir Lou is spot on about the music. It's low key mysterioso and it's worth having since it's one of the few Addison scores represented on CD.
The music in the mini series registered an impact with me. I saw the mini series first before I bought the soundtrack. Overall good score but it's no THE SEVEN PERCENT SOLUTION. NOW that's a great Addison score!

I'm looking for recording of the soundtrack to the 1990 TV Miniseries version of "Phantom of the Opera", music composed by John Addison.

The original release was on Colossal Records which was a "vanity" label of Varese Sarabande. The good news is that this soundtrack has been re-released... but the bad news is it's in digital download format only. You can find it at iTunes for $10. I am hoping it's okay to post the link to the album which should work if you have iTunes installed:

I would like to see his score for the Centennial miniseries on CD one day. I asked Tony Thomas about it back in 79-80 but he said no tapes existed of it. But several other things he said that about eventually did come out. This miniseries was one of the best in TV history and had a great score. Some of the episodes were of epic proportion while some of them really dragged and were very depressing. The score was always good. There were several recurring themes heard in it for various characters and the main title music was excellent.J.

Hey John, I would love to revisit Centennial again. I remember watching it each week. I'm hoping that it will be reissued on DVD one day. I also remember liking the music.NP Alamo Silva

Joan, Marietta and I taped it long ago off TV and we have all the episodes but one. This is one of my all time favorite TV miniseries along side Into the WEst, from 2005, Once an Eagle with Sam Elliott and Masada. That one Indian guy is in both Into the WEst and Centennial. Great in both of those.Next to Centennial I like his Bridge Too Far score a lot and Swashbuckler and the Sherlock HOlmes score. Great stuff.
I also love the sax bus chase cue from Torn Curtain. EXc piece. J.
