    This just in at Varese:

THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS: TOKYO DRIFT
    Original Motion Picture Score

    Music Composed by Brian Tyler

From the producer of the worldwide blockbuster hits The Fast And The Furious and its sequel, 2 Fast 2 Furious, comes the latest installment of the adrenaline-inducing series built on speed — THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS: TOKYO DRIFT. Set in the sexy and colorful underground world of Japanese drift racing, the newest and fastest customized rides go head-to-head on some of the most perilous courses in the world.

Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) is an outsider who attempts to define himself as a hot-headed, underdog street racer. Although racing provides a temporary escape from an unhappy home and the superficial world around him, it has also made Sean unpopular with the local authorities. To avoid jail time, Sean is sent to live with his gruff, estranged father — a career military man stationed in Tokyo.

Now officially a gaijin (outsider), Sean feels even more shut out in a land of foreign customs and codes of honor. But it doesn’t take long for him to find some action when a fellow American buddy, Twinkie (Bow Wow), introduces him to the underground world of drift racing. Sean’s simple drag racing gets replaced by a rubber-burning, automotive art form with an exhilarating balance of speeding and gliding through a heart-stopping course of hairpin turns and switchbacks.

On his first time out drifting, Sean unknowingly takes on D.K., the “Drift King,” a local champ with ties to the Japanese crime machine Yazuka. Sean’s loss comes at a high price tag when he’s forced to work off the debt under the thumb of ex-pat, Han (Sung Kang). Han soon welcomes Sean into this family of misfits and introduces him to the real principles of drifting. But when Sean falls for D.K.’s girlfriend, Neela (newcomer Nathalie Kelley), an explosive series of events is set into motion, climaxing with an ultimate high stakes face off.

The propulsive score for THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS: TOKYO DRIFT was composed by Brian Tyler. It packs an explosive and exhilarating energy which allows the composer to also show off his virtuosity with both the guitar and percussion. Joining Brian on guitar is none other than Slash (Guns N’Roses, Velvet Underground). This is a furious dose of adrenaline that makes for one of the most thrilling CDs of the summer!

Universal Pictures opens THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS: TOKYO DRIFT nationwide on June 16.

    STARGATE: The Deluxe Edition
    Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

    Music by David Arnold

    James Spader
Kurt Russell When a mysterious woman makes Professor Daniel Jackson (James Spader) an offer he can’t refuse, he ends up in a secret Air Force military base. His mission: to decode an ancient Egyptian artifact known as the Stargate.

The mission leader, Colonel Jack O’Neil (Kurt Russell), a tough military man with nerves of steel, commands their trip through the Stargate to an ancient civilization on the other side of the universe. But once there, they must battle the astoundingly powerful Sun God, Ra (Jaye Davidson), before they can find their way back home.

The original film that spawned not one but two TV series receives The Deluxe Edition treatment in this newly mastered and expanded special soundtrack release. For Stargate, composer David Arnold delivered the score that garnered him the international acclaim that ultimately led to projects like Independence Day and the latest three installments of the James Bond franchise (Die Another Day, The World Is Not Enough and Tomorrow Never Dies). Stargate is an enormous score using huge orchestral forces to recapture the spirit and adventure of the great action films of the past.

This is the Stargate CD everyone has been waiting for!

If the deluxe version of StarGate is a 2disc set, then I'm preordering this!. I hope they'll do the same for ID4 since the 2disc edition would be suite!

If the score to FF3 will be as good as the clip I heard in the Soundtrack.net podcast, then I'll be picking this thing up too...

Not to get off the subject. Varese owns the rights to Stargate not Milan? So why can't Varese re-release ST2:The Wrath of Khan? Don't they own the rights since the co. releaesd Nemesis in '02? Thanks.

I agree with the poster who questioned the STARGATE release. With all the dozens upon dozens of scores (especially offbeat and/or genre stuff) out there crying out for a release, why this?

Now, mind you, I certainly think the STARGATE score is solid. And has some good, memorable moments. But it's not a score I really listen to all that often. Like ID4, I find the themes to be terrific, but there's not a whole heck of a lot more going on that warrants repeat, straight-through listening for me.

And, also, I too felt that the original release was pretty darn good - long, full, satisfying. Why the need for an uber-edition, outside of the other one being out of print?

Hmm. Well, anyways, just my two cents. I'm still waiting for more obscure and/or long-unreleased stuff like THE KINDRED, TOP SECRET, etc. (most of which seem to sell out before I can get ahold of them, but regardless...). Or MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE, which I'd love so I can replace my old, warbly cassette tape.

I had a feeling deep in my bones that Brian Tyler's TRES FAST, TRES FURIOUS would be released. I get the sense that it won't be an orchestral score, but it might still be interesting.

Whatever it is, I'm getting. This score is in grave need of a shiny remaster w/ today's tech. Whatever extra cues are included make this disc totally worth having. I'm psyched!!!

    Go to: http://soundtrack.net/podcast/

There's a podcast with Tyler's cool score playing the background: metal vs. orchestra.

This was the message I received from Varese:

Could you please tell me if the Stargate deluxe edition will be out in 2006? Also is your company planning on releasing an deluxe editions to the Star Trek movies as well? Thank you.

Thank you for your note. We have not yet confirmed a release date for STARGATE.

We have no current plans for STAR TREK.

    Thanks.

I hate Varese! It would be nice if they would release their Conan the Barbarian score. The Milan is ok but I'd rather have the Varese Sarabande version!

    I suppose that's off topic.

Perhaps we'll get a nice juicy story addendum in the liner notes. That is... if it's a story worth telling.

7 more tracks than the original release of this score nice. I wonder if it actually has been remastered as Varése claims. I will definitely be preordering my copy once I get an email reply back from Varése.

I hope too that this contains all the unreleased music from "Battle At The Pyramid" but it looks like it does...

Don't count on a complete score for ID4 any time soon. RCA still holds the rights to the CD I believe. So unless Varése some how obtains the rights for the score don't expect a 2-CD release for ID4 any time soon as I said...
