Stargate

I'm currenlty in the process of listening to John Williams' Born on the Fourth of July score. Has anybody listened to this recently? Parts of it really remind of Stargate music (the TV show - and I know BOTFOJ came first). Has anybody else ever made this connection or am I just obssessed with Stargate (mind my username)?

I like Stargate too, but SG-1 stinks; Atlantis is the one to watch! Joel's Goldsmith's "Dart Battle" action piece is incredible; he outsnapped many composers last year in the action department. Also, the love theme he wrote for the season one episode, "Sanctuary," is something to behold—I hope he includes it on a forthcoming release CD for Stargate: Atlantis. The connection with the themes from John Williams's Born On The Fourth Of July and David Arnold's Stargate is the classical piece by Ralph Vaughan Williams, "Fantasia On A Theme By Thomas Tallis." There's a great recording of this piece on the soundtrack for Master And Commander: The Far Side Of The World (IMO, a great score, too, by the way).
Many composers appear to be influenced by this piece, like James Newton Howard's "Evacuation" piece from Snow Falling On Cedars, or James Horner's themes in Glory and Troy.
