Are they really calling it M:i:III? Cause thats just stupid. When did the excessive use of acronyms become so popular in Hollywood, and why?
I can remember some early uses of it starting from the lates 80s Hip Hop. But it seemed spin off when Independence Day became ID4. Anyway they've always kinda annoyed me.

The title M:i:III doesn't seem like much of a stretch to me, or that stupid really--especially seeing as how there have been worse acronyms.

I can remember when someone pitched Air Force One with an acronym- it was a journalist in a fledgling college newspaper. The lady wrote it as A.F.O. The only real problem was figuring when to stop with the jokes...A F[bomb]-off
A Final Orifice
Average Forced OrgasmIt's too easy a list to continue to make; glad they never went with it formally for the film's advertising.
All kidding aside, I kind of like how they structured this acronym. I'm trying REALLY hard not to make it in to some "verse of scripture from Dianetics" joke.

Oh I thought you were talking about the boy band, A.F.O. who had great lyrics such as
"New Kids on the Block had a bunch of hits, chinese food makes me sick and I like girls who wear abercrombie & fitch.. etc etc etc"

Anyway, I missed it, what exactly is the problem with acronyms? It seems like a very odd and petty thing to complain about.

Well, you could say joking about acronyms is just as ludicrous, but it is fun nonetheless.
Regardless of the needless conjecture, I'm looking forward to this film and this score. Soundtrack.net covered it pretty well in their podcast interview with Michael Giacchino, and the photo essay was interesting as well (of, course, that's covered in another thread).
