Well, the Oscar show did it again and I dragged my weary bones to see some Oscar winners and nominees.

I expected BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN to be the tear-jerker for me, but little did I know; Joaquin and Reese in WALK THE LINE impressed me a LOT more than the one-hour-too-long mountain romance of Heath and Jake. Not that BROKEBACK would have been a bad movie, not at all - but honestly its love story didn't hit me as deep as WALK THE LINE did.

The reason I'm writing this here on "Movie Soundtracks" section is that I also found WALK THE LINE's music treatment a much more better achievement as BROKEBACK's original score. -- Which made me wonder that it's a big shame that AMPAS doesn't acknowledge anymore the best adaptations or music treatment in movie music. WALK THE LINE was, in my humble opinion, a movie with an excellent balance between the music and the dramatic elements of the story. The music treatment was simply gorgeous. Not to mention that Joaquin and Reese sang marvelously.

WALK THE LINE's opening sequence is also something that I haven't experienced in movies for a long time. Quite eerie outdoor ambience noise of a prison grows slowly into compelling rhythm of the bass in Johnny Cash's band. Makes me reminisce such a legendary musical opening as in SUPERMAN - THE MOVIE (1978).

Maybe not original score stuff, but WALK THE LINE's musical treatment truly deserves a recognition for an excellent job in movie music! (Not forgetting that Joaquin Phoenix should have won the Oscar for his powerful, multi-layered performance as Johnny Cash).
