Hello playmates! The rules here are simple! I ask "What's new in your collection?" and you reply! Won't this be fun? One thing - please observe the time constraint - we can't have people talking about anything they got BEFORE March, because, quite simply, that would not be the answer to the question! If you all comply, maybe we could do a new one for April! But not till next month, folks!

It's only the first of March, so I haven't got anything yet (and I was SO looking forward to telling you about what I got yesterday, but rules is rules!)

But Graham...this has been a regular feature of moviemusic.com for the last few years, just as it has over at FSM, has it not? (Incidentally, it was started by Logied some years ago).

That's right, Thor - it has indeed been a regular feature here. But what happened lately is that it got uncomfortably scrappy, because it wasn't organizized on a strict monthly basis, so all I've done is restate the original anal-retentive rules, plus a warning of banishment into Lovecraftian hell for all those anarchists out there who don't know what discipline is.

A very cold shower to you all.

The first three scores of March for me:

    Fluke (Carlo Siliotto)
    Giant Robo I (Masamichi Amano)
    Giant Robo II (Masamichi Amano)

Sadly, my other Amano score arrived a day or so too early, so it shall be shunned like a leper…

I should be expecting Shore's Soul of the Ultimate Nation and Bear McCreary's Season Two music from "Battlestar Galactica" from a source I will only refer to as "Deepthroat" (only because I've heard he does ) very shortly. Another thank you goes out to that deepthroating source.

Super Atragon is still one of my favorite Amano scores. That main title is a knockout... Since you got Giant Robo I & II, I'm going to take a guess and say you ordered the ADVision releases. I've enjoyed almost all of his scores but did not care for his music for Ninja: Resurrection.

Yup, since these are the first Amano scores I've picked up, I went the cheap route and got the ADV releases, though Super Atragon actually took quite a bit of hunting to find someplace that still had it in stock. It seems that even the ADV release has gone out of print now.

Of course now that the first two Giant Robo discs have whet my appetite, I'll probably be importing as many of the other discs as I can get my hands on too. I guess it'd probably be too much to ask for Columbia Records to reissue the whole set in their budget Animex series, wouldn't it?

NP: Toward the Terra ~ Symphonic Suite (Masaru Sato)

It may not do you too much good to know this now but Fry's Electronics was stocking all the ADVision soundtracks at one point. I think my local Fry's still has copies available of certain titles like the Giant Robos.

I've been listening to all the "For Your Consideration" score CDs from the Motion Picture Academy. "Brokeback Mountain" is my favorite. 22 tracks (all instrumental)--no songs! I haven't watched the film yet, but the score is deeply moving. I was quite surprised when the composer, Gustavo Santaolalla revealed that he hadn't yet seen the film when he wrote practically all of it!

I don't think there's a Fry's Electronics anywhere in my immediate area, though I've gotten most of the ADVision discs that interested me already. I still need to pick up a copy of Ifukube's Destroy All Monsters sometime soon though…

A few more new scores showed up today, all from composers that are pretty new to me.

Suna no Utsuwa: Destiny Suite (Kosuke Sugano)
    The Aurora (Masamichi Amano)
    Hyoheki (Takatsugu Muramatsu)
    Lorna Doone (Mari Iijima)

So far this month's off to a good start!

No word on L3's "official" release for McCreary's Season Two music as of yet. But I could be mistaken, I haven't checked La La's official site for anything; so I'm a bit lazy in that department.

I've been away for awhile but I managed to grab two titles for my collection:

FIREWALL - Alejandre Desplat (I really like it Demetris, I think it far surpasses a "standard thriller score" but that might be my Desplat-bias talking again)

21 GRAMS - Gustavo Santaolalla (how close is his Brokeback score to this? I love the minimalist approach and the music is very haunting, but I have no desire to see Brokeback but I'm willing to give his score a shot considering it must be good enough for the same award the Academy denied Goldsmith on some of his best work ;-) )

Haven't posted on this thread's various incarnations for a while but:

A Tribute to Alfred Newman (OP-Koch CD with Kaufman)
    Fantastic 4 (Ottman)
    Alias-2 (Giacchino)
    Serenity (Newman)
Not With My Wife You Don’t/Any Wednesday (Williams/Duning)
    Force 10 from Navarone (Goodwin)
    Enduring Love (Sams)
    Joyeux Noel (Rombi)
    The Fourth King (Morricone)
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (Beltrami)
    Crime and Dissonance (Morricone comp)

Let me put in a plug for both Enduring Love (Ivor Novello winner for best score 2004) and Rombi's score for Joyeux Noel. The Sams score is on the same label as Banos' "The Machinist" (Melowdrama).

Hey guys, I've been lurking for almost a year now and I noticed a lot of talk about the From Hell Score by Trevor Jones. So my question is: Is it good? Saw someone bought it and I'd always thought about buying it but wanted to come on here and ask first..Thanks for the feedback..

I like the Evanescence tracks, and normally I like moby, but not the track on that CD.

    So far:

Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire (fantastic score! By far my favorite Potter score!)

Jarhead (Trevor Rabin meets Thomas Newman... I can dig it!)

Yes, absolutely. It's Jones' best in a few years (not counting Loch Ness). And I agree with the Pete, the Manson song needs to go; But "Bow Belle" has to stay, it completes the package. Too bad the movie couldn't live up tp how glorious and foreboding the score is.

V For Vendetta by Dario Marianelli

In the past few days, I have added:

CRIMSON TIDE - Hans Zimmer (I'm a little late on this one, but I found it cheeeeaaappp.)

THE NEW WORLD - James Horner (I like this, I haven't been a fan of Jimmy's since - oh well - Braveheart, but I find myself listening to this one a lot more than I expected. It's nothing perfect and you can still notice the usual Horner self-plagarism, but there are some very well-done cues that exist here. Although in the film, most if this score didn't make it, I can somehow sense that Terry Malick might have made the right choices. The Wagner piece still sits with you after these past few months.)

BRICK - Nathan Johnson (I will say this and I will mean it, this is one of the most original and eclectic scores to be added to my collection in a long time. Every cue here seems to be done with a lot of heart and soul and all of the themes and motifs really shine through here no matter how dingy they might have been performed. And I also say this and mean it: this is very experimental music, and NOT EVERYONE will have the ear for this; at all.)

UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION - Marco Beltrami (I missed the hell out of Marco on attainable CD; sure I just got Three Burials not but a month ago, but this is the Marco I fell in love with. Deep brass, driving strings, percussive percussion, intense motifs, frenetic action; I love every second of it.)

LOST - Michael Giacchino (Unfortunately, I need a little more time with this one seeing that I just came across it today; but I really enjoyed the first listen.)

Tonight, I hopped into a Half Price Books on my way home, and found:

I'm surprised the Regarding Henry isn't listed for Zimmer on this site.

Wow, Regarding Henry for $6. Let me know if they ever have any more! The CD was discontinued by Capitol Records within a year of its release. And this was back in 1991, so this is one damn rarity. I still don't have my own copy!

I didn't know that. That's explains why they're goin for so much on Amazon.

And thanks for the link, Peter. I swear, I put both title, then composer in before and I didn't get it. Guessed I spelled something wrong. About a week ago, at a different location, I found the K2 cd. HPB has been very good to my collection...
