Here's some more new Varese titles coming. One is a reissue of the Elmer Bernstein/John Wayne CD.

    Here's the info:

    ICE AGE 2: THE MELTDOWN
    Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

    Music Composed by John Powell

    Ray Romano
    John Leguizamo
    Denis Leary
    Queen Latifah

Manny, Sid and Diego return in another incredible adventure. The Ice Age is coming to an end, and the animals are delighting in their new world: a melting paradise of water parks, geysers and tar pits. But when Manny, Sid and Diego discover that the miles of melted ice will flood their valley, they must warn everyone and somehow figure out a way to escape the coming deluge.

John Powell, one of the most successful composers working today, has composed a score brimming with melody. The soundtrack itself is an epic adventure, overflowing with a sense of wonder and fun.

Twentieth Century Fox opens Ice Age 2: The Meltdown nationwide on March 31.

    TRUE GRIT:
    ELMER BERNSTEIN
Conducts his Classic Scores for the Films of JOHN WAYNE

Music Composed and Conducted by Elmer Bernstein

    Featuring Music From:

    True Grit
    The Shootist
    The Commancheros
    Big Jake
    Cahill: United States Marshall

The legendary Elmer Bernstein composed some of the most iconic film music of all time. Bernstein lays claim to such film music masterpieces as To Kill A Mockingbird, The Ten Commandments and The Great Escape, along with much more recent classics such as Far From Heaven, Ghostbusters and The Grifters. But with all of this marvelous music, the composer may be most famous for his westerns. Bernstein composed one of the most famous pieces of film music ever for 1960’s The Magnificent Seven and, as one of John Wayne’s personal favorite composers, worked on many films with the great film icon.

To pay tribute to his friend, Bernstein himself assembled music from five of his scores for John Wayne westerns, including The Duke’s final motion picture, The Shootist.

Over 75 minutes of music, recorded with the Utah Symphony Orchestra, with Bernstein himself conducting! TRUE GRIT: ELMER BERNSTEIN conducts his Classic Scores for the Films of JOHN WAYNE is a special recording which now celebrates the memory of both Bernstein and Wayne. This is classic film music that embodies the spirit of the American West like no other. They just don’t write ’em like this anymore!

It seems that Varese is the exclusive distributor of John Powell scores...

    Love it.

I've also noticed his scores seem to be altered a lot when they make it to CD. In the film Evolution, the main theme is slightly different. In I Am Sam there were like 4 or 5 cues that were different.

Does anyone know if David Newman's theme will be returning for Ice Age 2?

I'm curious as to why David Newman isn't composing Ice Age II. I thought the first Ice Age was an underrated, top-notch animated movie. I never tire of viewing it.

All I know is that the Director for Ice Age 2 did Robots, which was scored by John Powell.

Ice Age was/is really good. I hope this new movie lives up to the original. Robots was a pretty inventive and lively movie so I think there's hope yet.

I doubt this will happen for sure, but it seems we could expect X-Men 3 to be available from Varese this May/June, if the theory of Powell on Varese is correct.

I love Powell's work on The Bourne films. I look forward to what he would do with The Bourne Ultimatum (assuming it goes past Post-Production).

And, yes, I look forward to John Powell's work on X-Men 3 - sorry, i think they're calling it X-Men: The Last Stand. (They should still just call it X-Men III).
