With only three weeks until the airing of Planet Earth, the 'follow up' to The Blue Planet again scored by George Fenton, does anyone know of plans for a cd release of the score?

A Blue Planet follow up I didn't know about? And scored by Fenton? I'm excited now!

So this came and went without any discussion? I was completely addicted to this show when it finally aired on the Discovery Channel here in the US a few weeks ago, and now that I've acquired the DVDs I'm going to be addicted even more. It's a truly amazing piece of work.

Fenton's music was as spectacular as Blue Planet and apparently received a 2-disc release in the UK. I'll have to get that as soon as I have the means.

One of the advantages of YouTube is that instead of trying to describe what the music was like, I can show you some of my favorite moments. Here are a few scenes upon which I think Fenton's score made an exceptional impact.

I love how completely over-the-top Fenton goes in this scene. It turns cute into cute and hilarious.

This is a couple different bits spliced together (i.e., some bad edits) but Fenton's music for the snow leopards was some of the most beautiful in the series. Elegant and gorgeous, just like its subjects.

A majestic spectacle requires majestic music.

Thanks for these clips - I've always wanted to see this series. As the BBC documentaries usually air on Austrian TV within a few months, I probably just missed it when it was on.

I have the 2CD release though, and have always felt a little let down by it. Perhaps it's just because I haven't seen the series, or because 2 CDs include more "filler" music. But compared to Blue Planet/Deep Blue, most of this just didn't grip me that much. There are several highlights of course (some of which you've posted above), but overall, it feels a bit unfocused to me.

Or perhaps I just haven't found the right access to it yet. I remember that Blue Planet took me a few days until I couldn't stop listening to it for weeks, and in that case I'd already seen the series before I got the score.

I haven't seen the series yet, but I've been falling in love with the music the last few weeks. My thanks to the poster above for sharing those clips. It makes me want to see the whole thing.

This is an extraordinary television show - tinged with sadness because so much of what they show is on the verge of extinction, but even so it is breathtaking.

I just ordered the Planet Earth 4-discs HD-DVD set this past weekend, so anxious awaiting its arrival, which should be tomorrow. Can't wait to enjoy this one in 1080p!! I had not idea Fenton was scoring, though it makes sense. Per JohnChambers original question, are there any plans for a score album?

I bought the complete series on DVD for my Dad last Christmas. Best self-present I ever thought of

A 2-CD set has been out for months:

It really is great, particularly if you like Fenton's Blue Planet style.

Thanks James! Much appreciated. I suppose I could have done a search, but alas... laziness.

Hope the feature re-recording of the score - EARTH - also gets a release.

This 2CD set makes for one of the most spectacular, rewarding scores of recent times. Epic film music.
