I just read that La La Records is planning to issue a legit Breakheart Pass. I think that's great and welcome seeing this one finally being made available to the masses.Just as importantly, I think this is the week that La La releases King Kong vs Godzilla, a wonderful score by Akira Ifukube.
The number of domestic Ifukube releases has increased exponentially lately & that's a great thing.

L2 never made it clear whether they were releasing KK vs G in stereo or not. There is a rare Japanese stereo and a more common Japanese mono and so Ifukube fans would love to see a domestic stereo. As for the score itself, it has a few cues of great chanting for the island natives, some based on actual Anu islander chants. Godzilla is represented for the first real time by his 'Appearance of Godzilla' motif (it's there in a sort of pre-natal state in one cue of the original Godzilla score) which will accompany him nearly everytime he shows up in his films from then on. King Kong is represented by these weird sliding effects in the brass. For me the 2 highlights of the score are the fugal "The Plan to Transport King Kong", and "King Kong vs Godzilla-II", a great pulsing ostinato set against electronics that sound like a musical saw.

Thanks Mike.KKvsG has been listed for pre-order in the MM store for several weeks. Is it in stereo or not? I see one of the "bonus" tracks is in mono, so I assume the rest is in stereo.
No mention of number of units for Breakheart Pass. 1k, 2k, 5k?

LOL. I originally saw King Kong vs Godzilla in 1961 at the Cowtown Drivein there at the corner of Jacksboro Highway and River Oaks Blvd. It was a dollar a carload there then.We laughed all the way through it.
I saw a bit of this on TV awhile back and noticed some of Hans J. Salter and Skinner music dubbed near the end of the battle. It cracked me up when I heard it.As the helicopter pilot yelled out when he saw Godzilla, "Look, its Godzilla!" when it broke out of the ice. He could hardly see it and had no idea what it was but he knew instantly. Aw, instant recognition, so good. J.

L2's LOST IN SPACE 2CD 40th anniversary discs just came through the door here. Awesome stuff. And Williams's 3rd season title is a one-minute masterpiece of speed & fun. I hit the repeat button and it just went over & over & over and I never tired of it.
I loved the design choice to have a circle of photos of all the LIS composers surround an image of the LIS cast. Glad to have this.
Now if L2 would only get all the Leith Stevens scores from LIS, Time Tunnel, Land of the Giants, and VoyageTTBOTS together on one disc (or 2 discs)....

Looking forward to that new Breakheart with those additional cues with great sound for a change. Those triple copied LPs and so forth in past had awful sound and missed so much of the great music, especially that one good fight action cue there near the end. Great stuff. J.

More Kudos to L3 for arranging a big get-together of composers like Chris Young & Brian Tyler for a public CD signing in LA. I don't know when & who & what all the details are so don't ask me more. Maybe someone else will chime in here. Sure, they're pushing the product, but to get a bunch of composers together and have them meet the public for autographs is a real plus in my book. Go guys go!

Now that's what I call a wonderful way to spend an afternoon... I was at the signing this afternoon at Dark Delicacies in Burbank and had a great time... I also saw our own Bond1965 there, my friend, James. Didn't see too many other people there from either of the boards. Dan Goldwasser was on hand to document the event. For those of you that are big horror fans and find yourselves in Burbank, check out Dark Delicacies! They have a great selection of horror themed books, DVDs, CDs, etc. It's a well-lit establishment, staffed with friendly people. I will definitely be going back there to browse their paperback selection... There was a really good turnout for the signing. There had to have been at least 100 people queueing up around 2:00. It was a great pleasure to meet the composers and everybody seemed to be having a good time. I can't remember the last time I heard of a signing event with so many composers together at the same time... I hope this sort of thing happens more often.

Here is a link to some pictures of the event... Pictures taken by Jonathan Broxton. Astute viewers will see me lurking in the background of Nathan Barr's pic, on the right, with special guest star, MVG's chin.

As cool as it would have been to meet and greet with Tyler, Young, and Bates; the thought of ever seeing Ford Thaxton live and in the flesh gives me the worst kind of creeps that even Young himself couldn't score properly.

I shouldn't rag on Ford. His bark is worse than his bite. But, like me at times, he does seem to have the talent to rub people the wrong way.
