Here's something that Lukas Kendall posted on the FSM board that I thought you guys might like to know. I know there are many who read both sites, but there are some who don't.

"Happy 2006 folks. I thought I'd start the year by scaring you that a number of our early, mostly Fox releases are reaching the end of their stocks. We have exhausted our inventory of discs and print parts on the following titles, which means that whatever SAE has in stock right now (typically 100-500 units) is all that will be available (not counting what other stores might have in stock):

    STAGECOACH/THE LONER
    FANTASTIC VOYAGE - extremely low!!!
THE RETURN OF DRACULA - Actually we've sold nowhere near the 2,500 of the limited run --more like half that -- but we have to cut it off as we never printed the full run of booklets, and it's expensive to manufacture. A few hundred left.
PATTON - down to last 100.
    PRINCE VALIANT
    MONTE WALSH
    PRINCE OF FOXES
    ALL ABOUT EVE
    RIO CONCHOS
BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES
A GUIDE FOR THE MARRIED MAN
BATMAN - last 200, going fast
    BENEATH THE 12-MILE REEF - last 100
THE FRENCH CONNECTION - last 200, going fast
    THE BRAVADOS
    THE WORLD OF HENRY ORIENT

I would move quickly on Patton, Fantastic Voyage, Batman, 12-Mile Reef and The French Connection if I wanted to make sure I wasn't playing the ebay game later."

Not trying to fuel speculation here, just a head's up if you have been waiting on a few of these.

PS. Get Patton. You will never regret as long as you live.

I let "Take a Hard Ride" slip through my fingers. I'll be damned if I let the same thing happen to "A Guide for the Married Man".

That's a good one. Honestly, these are all very good CD's. The only problem is there are so many of them. If I was just starting I would despair of ever getting a complete FSM run. Still, even if I didn't I'd have some awesome music.

But Patton, Prince Valiant, All About Eve, Beneath the 12 mile Reef and Stagecoach/The Loner are probably my favorites on this list.

Although Bravados is also quite good.

SBD, if you liked Take a Hard Ride, consider Rio Conchos and Stagecoach. These are both tremendous Goldsmith westerns.

I wonder how many of these will be back if Lukas ever gets more capital. I thought he said over at FSM's board that Take a Hard Ride only sold about 2000 copies but he has exhausted the supply of liner notes. I guess instead of ordering another run of an "old" title that could take years to sell, it looks like he's focusing on funding new product instead. That's just my take on what could be happening, but I might be totally wrong.

I think you are right. I remember a post from him a few years back that basically said that they sold the first half of most runs pretty handily and that let them cover production costs. The second half went very slowly, but that was where the profit was.

My guess is that with issues that don't sell the first half of the run quickly enough to warrant the additional expense of ordering the next bacth of product are just too likely to sit unsold for too long it makes better sense to truncate the run.

This is the same thing Percepto did when they stopped producing some of their limited runs recently.

Essentially, FSM and Percepto are actually producing runs of 2000 or less along the lines of Intrada and Varese when they cancel the remainder of a 3000 CD pressing.
