I'm surprised that no one has mentioned this movie yet. It is a modern day western directed by and staring Tommy Lee Jones. It has been released, I think. People Magazine gave it 3 and a half stars out of four and said it was the next best modern western (for this year) after Brokeback Mountain. Jones said that he was influenced by Kurasawa, Peckinpah, and Godard. (How posh!) IMDB personal reviews are very good.Jones selected Marco Beltrami to score this movie. Hmmm, westerns will be a new genre for Beltrami, and I'm glad to see him doing something different. Anybody heard the score or read any soundtrack reviews?

It looks very good judging from the trailers and the recognition it received at Cannes ain't too shabby either. Last time I talked to Jeff, he said that the score was one of Beltrami's best, but there was no news of a score release; just like two of his other films this year (crap films, but excellent scores): Cursed and xXx2. Hopefully we hear some news soon, because I need some Beltrami this year, dammit!

The score has been released overseas. I bought my copy as a import. Great score. Different then what he usually does. Would not say it's his best. That would probably have to go to I Am Dina as his best score. but this is a very good score. But if your looking for a big orchestral western score, your not going to find that here. The soundtrack contains score and songs from the film. Alittle over 30 minutes of score.

Looks like it's coming out in the U.S. at the end of January as well.

Tommy Lee Jones was on the Tonight Show last week... great interview, a really entertaining guy. I bought the Lonesome Dove DVD last summer. Jones and Duvall were so incredibly good together in that movie. Will look forward to seeing Three Burials.

Well, judging by the trailer, something like The Big Country doesn't seem quite so appropriate.
Mind you, the only issue I'm taking with your comment is your specific example. If you want to stay within the realm of big orchestral western scores, Three Burials would seem to call for something more like Rio Conchos or the darker portions of Tombstone.
Nevertheless, I'm enjoying what I'm hearing of Beltrami's effort so far, and this is one of my most anticipated end-of-the-year movies...though I don't think it breaks free of LA and NY until early February.

Thanks for that link, Kirk. Yep, it doesn't look like The Big Country nor would such music fit. I just want something more than a few guitar twangs here and there.
I'd love to hear another score like Rio Conchos.NP Christmas music.
