    Star Wars, anyone?

Whatever may be said of it, STAR WARS isn't actually a very self-indulgent film. It's not that long, it's not that big and it lacks the giddy excesses of the prequels (or even the sequels).

Star Wars is "not that big"?

Don't use today's standards for evaluating a movie from 1977.

I'm not. Nor am I judging the magnitude of a production based on its historical wake. For a film of the time to be budgeted at $8.25 million (rising to $11 million) was certainly above average over all American cinema, but compared the big tentpoles of the time (e.g. Heaven's Gate, budgeted at $11.5 million, which rose of course to $30 million), was hardly among the biggest shows in town. It was only after its release that it really became big.

I meant "big" in the sense that what was shown on screen was big, not the money involved.

I was talking more in terms of production myself.

What? Did I miss something or was Star Wars the first movie shown projected onto a big screen?! Weird.
