Wait a minute, Trevor Jones did the music for Marvel Nemesis? The game was of the utmost mediocracy, but the score was quite good. The entire time I was playing it I kept telling myself a lot of the music sounded like "You Have the Power" from his Dark City score. Cool though.

Been listening a lot to Extraordinary Gentlmen and Merlin. Like those both a lot. They are somewhat similar but exc. The Merlin has some long good cues and nice themes. Have not seen either film, but the music is very good.

Oh great! Just what we needed! Crappy sounding exclusive 128kbps files of instrumental music. As if pop music on iTunes didn't sound poor enough... I suppose it's not too apparent when you play it on an iPod.

I never really got to understanding everyone's fascination with those damn iPods.

Neither have I nut_score. They're too damn expensive and you can get a portable CD player for half the price it costs to get an iPod. Ya you can hold lots of music on it. But I'd rather stick to CD's and a portable CD player...

Hard drive music players are nice because:
    - they hold a lot of music in a very small package
    - they look really nice (Kenwood, Sony, Gigabeat)

Unfortunately, there's little point in having 1 000 hours of music, when your battery can't last for more than 10 hours or so. Sound, on most players except the Sony, Kenwood & iAudio models, seems to be pretty sucky and inferior to CD and MD players (unless you have very a very low standard for sound quality, then I suppose most of them sound good). Browsing a large library of songs is a pain in the ***. And ultimately... you're putting all your eggs in the same basket. It's nice to know you have all your music on a fragile hard drive which can blow up at any point. Hope your PC drive doesn't at the same time.

All in all... HDD players (iPod, or otherwise) are cute. But they have a long way to go. Right now they're just cool, and hardly useful.

I seriously hope they won't start replacing Soundtrack CD's with iCrap stuff.

Trevor Jones' music for "You have the Power" was used in Marvel Nemisis, but he didn't write anything for it. It was two other composer. Its all listed in the credits.

I despise those iCraps as well. Call me old-fashioned but nothing can ever replace the magic and sound-quality of an album on cd, or even better vinyl.

Yeah... but when you go out in the morning, and you don't know what you want to listen to that day, it can be handy having low-res versions of 400 cds in your pocket... on earphones, the difference isn't so bad.

Well, the point is, there are still more affordable and (many would claim) better MP3 players on the market. Many of them you don't have to subscribe to any downloading service. Hell, I use my Sony PSP for this purpose. If I'm ever taking a trip and I know I'll need some good music, I pop my 1 GB Memory Stick ProDuo into the PSP and load it with my favorite music (you guys know which kind ;-) ) and I'm ready to go. Plus, I can play games and watch glorious movies in widescreen format.

Good, I get you, but I don't understand what you mean by having to subscribe to any downloading service? I can put tracks from any downloaded source on my ipod, and I've never had a problem digitizing apparent copy-controlled CDs. With 20 Gig on it, practically a third of my collection walks around with me.

Sorry Franz, I was under the impression that you had to subscribe to iTunes in order to get tracks for your iPod; at least that was what the clerk at Best Buy told me a year ago when I was looking into purchasing one.

You asked a Best Buy clerk for information? :giggles:
Typically it's the customers that give Best Buy clerks the information.

You only have to subscribe to iTunes if you use iTunes to buy legally downloadable music. Otherwise, you can just use iTunes to burn your CDs to your PC and transfer them to the bad-sounding white thing with the round wheel. No subscription necessary.

And, twin, correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't put tracks from any downloaded source on your iPod. Legally-obtained WMA files with DRM won't play on it. Unless Crapple introduced some new changes to iTunes allowing you to transfer DRM WMA files.

Well, there are some .wma files I super-legally obtained - Elfman's Sommersby for example - which play with no problems on my ipod. All mp3 and wav files play, naturally any iTunes recognised format actually. Not so sure what DRM WMA files are though... Your knowledge in these matters always far exceeds mine twin.

The thing that really surprised me was that I've never had a problem digitising copy-protected CDs and putting them on the ipod.

Glad to hear about Where the Truth Lies. It's on my list to get. But Franzie...why aren't you watching KING KONG (1933) instead of listening to music? ;-)

    Shhh... MMM might hear you!

Incidentally James, you might find this thread interesting to see what I've been up to: http://www.scorereviews.com/forum/topic.asp?id=3943

Note that the short film I linked to in the opening line might not still be there, as the twits at the school put up the version of the film with the temp track, not the final mix.
