I picked up this soundtrack on a whim yesterday along with the Goblet of Fire and The Constant Gardener CDs. I must say, it was quite a whimsical buy; I'm very pleased by this score. I've never played the game, so I don't know exactly what context the cues fall into, but it definitely rose my desire to get a hold of the game. The first track, "Muse", is a haunting and bittersweet cue, complete with vocals performed by Charlotte Martin; after that, there is a vast range of music to be found here. The opening action cues - tracks 3 and 7 - are very reminiscent of John Barry-style action; even the brief motif in track 3 sounds similar to his music from Dances with Wolves. In between those tracks, there is some fantastic thematically-driven music, complete with children and male choirs. Towards the middle of the CD, the action music slips into a Goldenthal-esque bombastic, driving horns accompanied by fast strings. Towards the end, it slips to a bit of a generic action music mode, but that's not saying anything bad; it still sounds fresh and perfect with the rest of the score. Martin's vocal contributions are sparse between the material, as she provides for the opening track and "Greater Lights" (an English-sung vocal track) and her voice can be heard through brief segments in the opening tracks. This is the first time I've heard Martin's voice, and it's well-suited for this music. All in all, this was a great blind purchase, and I hope a few of you who don't mind hearing how amazing video game soundtracks have become will give it a listen.

Obviously it takes a full orchestra and choir to make Tommy Tallarico's music sound good.

I'm confused Al...was that a barb or a compliment?I guess full orchestra & good in the same sentence must be a compliment...in which case I agree.

Yes guys, unfortunately I have pulled a Horner and begun to plagiarize my own material. It was from the first post in this thread that I got that reveiw; I wished you guys would have never noticed. You all hate me now, right?quote:

Hmmm...too bad. There some good content in there if you could get past your obvious taste for Tallerico.

I wonder how Tommy finds the time to write breathtaking works of symphonic composition in between fart jokes during his video game reviews on G4TV. Oh, who's this Michael Richard Plowman character? Hmmm.

Hmmm.Haha, yeah. More than likely. I honestly can't stand Tallarico and that other guy on their review show. That's why I was so surprised to hear this album.

Hey, Tallarico has good taste in music--well, an adolescent-like good taste: "John Williams is king, and I also like Danny Elfman"--but his imitation is more in getting the big orchestra and choir sound rather than the meat of it. I just think what a real composer could have done with all of this...
