Since this announcement seems to have received as much interest as lead balloons....

I can only hope that this CD sees a domestic release. Banos is one of the best of Europe's composers working today. I have yet to hear something I have not enjoyed and about the only way to do that is to sit through some pretty awful Spanish films at times. But the music is always high quality.

Indeed. His score for THE MACHINIST was the best Bernard Herrmann modern re-visit i've heard for some years now. Looking forward to any new scores by him.

I agree. Been looking to pick that up soon. Banos is really adept at picking up on that Herrmann sound, but Iglesias does the same thing as well in his Almodovar scores. "Bad Education" and Banos' "The Machinist" are both superb scores. But you and I both know they won't get much notice here...lol

I think the "notice" of Banos and Iglesias's recent CDs came and went when these CDs originally hit the market! I'm all for talking about underappreciated scores more than a couple times, but by the very fact that they are underappreciated, there's only so much re-talk in them.

I am not trying to put down discussion on these fine scores.... My point is more to deflect an apparent criticism that things don't get noticed here. They do. Sometimes we're the one who miss it, not this place. It can happen.

Now, what about Don Davis' try at Herrmann? Bound was a total ripoff to me, but a beautiful one. Steamy film makes me wonder if Herrmann would have scored it the way Davis did. There's a twist.

Peter, I did not mean a slight on the message board. While there are a few of us who talk about a greater variety of scores, most of the time it feels like there is a lot of Media Ventures type talk, and the standard Williams and Goldsmith stuff. And that is a sweeping generalization.

Actually, if I remember correctly, you had the Iglesias score pop up on the main page for quite some time!

Well, I've had many failed attempts to get the score for The Machinist and The Constant Gardener is my first Iglesias purchase. I do enjoy when we have conversations that stray from the standard Williams v. Goldsmith and MV topics.

Anyways, has anyone heard Jeff Beal's score to Carnivale? That along with the Shore/Young The Fly Varese set and The Brothers Grimm and I haven't gotten in enough Goblet of Fire or Memoirs of a Geisha listens. Damn these good scores!

nuts_score, be sure to get (on Iglesias)

Alberto Iglesias - los amantes del circulo polar (The lovers of the Artic Circle) - his best score to date, imo.

Alberto iglesias - todo sobre mi madre (all about my mother)

Alberto iglesias - the dancer upstairs (Pasos de baile)

    also

Hable con ella (talk to her)
    La mala educacion (bad education)

I don't know if Peter carries these anymore or if they are out of print but there was a 2-disc set of Iglesias music released by Spanish label JMB (#503-4). It's worth tracking down if you are interested in having some of his earlier music.

Thanks Rick. I'm in America and still continuing my search for the CD. I might try heading over to Borders this weekend. The one close to me has an impressive soundtrack collection.
