Hey all!Just found this on Amazon. Still kind of pricey, but I don't think we're going to get a brake on this one. From the looks of it, storage on your favorite CD shelf will not be an issue.
Doug, you and your team rock!

Yeah it is very appropriate. Looks very much like the EE DVD boxes. Very dignified and book looking. Truly a design worthy of the release.

Ooh, goody! They did stay true to the color of the regular Special Edition of the FOTR soundtrack! So, I guess TTT will come in deep blue and ROTK in dull green then.

Perhaps they are going to use the color code for the sets but wouldn't it have been more logical to start of with green as with DVD boxes?
Oh well the colors are a little matter. The set looks wonderful. Very Tolkien design.

Ha! As much as I love the great tradition of taking credit for work I didn’t do, I should probably direct your applause towards the great people at Warner Brothers and Smog Design!
I will, however, happily thank you in their stead.

What you see on Amazon is the literal box itself. Inside you’ll have two packages, one containing the discs, one the notes. And as much as I think they hit a homerun on the outer box, I thin the inside packaging is the real grand slam! (Can you tell I’ve been watching the White Sox all week?) The whole thing is so detailed it has to be hand assembled. Just amazingly classy work.

Looks very nice, so far. Of course, it's hard to estimate the exact dimensions from this one picture.

All those scientific measurements and computer analysis are sure handy
Now we know it is approximately the size of a CD jewel case or perhaps larger. Now we could just ask Doug.Doug what size is the Box (or is that what it should be called)?

I think it's about 5 inches by 5 inches -- normal CD size -- but thicker to hold everything.

Hi guys,Well, there’s still a bit of flexibility on the exact date of the book’s release, because everyone, of course, wants it to fit in well with… future releases…

Last I heard, sometime next summer was being touted as a possibility -- possibly between the second and third… future releases…
However, they might also wait until the third… future release… and cap off the whole lengthy project with the complete book.
I would guess that the latter is the most likely possibility, and I kind of like it myself. Besides, it might take me another year before I can get good at locating typos in Elvish anyway!

It is a shame it might take that long before we get to read that magnificent book of yours (high hopes I know but I trust you). But on the other hand it is important that the Sindarin, Quenya, Adûnaic, Khuzdûl and Old English and all the other languages are correct and checked so take as long as you want Doug(but not too long)!

Well, the liner notes will feature excerptions from his book, so we get some of the book before the actual release ... kinda
What do you mean with "...future releases ..."? The first soundtrack isn't even out yet and you already start teasing us about the second and the third by implying something here?

Who?
Top. Men.

By the way, Mikko, I see some worry has arisen over at JWFan.net. (I like to lurk -- tell everyone “hi” for me, please.) I was just kidding about the Elvish editing. All the texts have come directly from David Salo, Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh and have been proofread by Salo, checked against the book, and checked by Warners’ and Howard’s staffs. There’s no hold up coming from that direction… I was just eyeball-deep in Sindarin last week and letting off some steam. The texts are in fine shape.
So why really is the release so late?
Because that’s when I’ve been told it should come out!
I think the idea is that the book shouldn’t compete with any of the CD releases… not because one will outdo the other, but because it’s not very considerate to the consumer. $60.00 for a CD and $XX.XX for a book on the same day? And a little of the book info is already in the $60.00 CD set? I’d grumble too!
I’m also guessing that the book will be out after ROTK because the book makes mention of track information from the CDs, and I doubt that the ROTK tracks will be finalized so far in advance that the book could be released in the interim between TTT and ROTK.
But, I could be wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time… today!

Thank you for laying that book release speculation and Sindarin proof reading to rest Doug
I have every confidence in you and I am waiting the book more than ever. It is shame that the releases are not directed to us hard core score fans who know these things and buy the book any way
And the release of the book after ROTK box makes perfect sense in many ways as you said. Nice of you to share your info with us Doug! You are as helpful as ever and it has made the wait for the release of these scores little easier!
