From the Film Score Monthly message board:

"It's a gray and drizzly day here in Los Angeles which is a suitable backdrop to tell you all that the print magazine, Film Score Monthly, will be coming to an end with the next issue, Vol. 10, No. 6, due in around a month.

The reason is purely financial, and absolutely necessary in that regard. The costs of printing, overhead and the staff has become untenable.

We have sent a letter to our subscribers with instructions on receiving free CDs in exchange for issues not yet published. L.A. residents may receive their letter today or tomorrow which is why I am posting here this morning. We are offering one CD for every six months (three issues) or portion thereof remaining on your subscription. If you do not receive a letter, it's because your subscription is expiring with the last issue (we have not sent renewal notices in a while).

Rest assured our CDs will continue as will the website! This is a move for the better as we join the rest of the 21st century.

Still, it's been a long run for the print mag -- 15+ years and probably around 150 editions -- and I'm immensely proud of our efforts.

This suffices for this initial announcement...thanks for your readership and understanding. By all means post your thoughts here.

    Lukas Kendall"

Ok, so now it's Film Score Minutely to keep the initials right. Right?

    Or Film Score Modernly?
    Or Film Score Melancholy?
    Or Film Score Macholy?

Wow. Changing times. I think the record side was the more important contribution and I'm glad that will continue but still this must be tough for them and is a loss for us. Hopefully the website will still post articles and interviews from time to time to keep us up on the latest news, but the magazine itself, which wound up on racks across the country, besides having good info, was a kind of announcement to the lay public who'd see it that film music was something that rated a zine and was a thing to consider. With the loss of the zine, film music loses it's only Town Crier.

The new possibilities will more than likely overcome the loss of a print version. It's a potentially smart move for the new on-line digital age.

Still, I will miss the paper version.

Oh, shut the hell up, zimmerito, before you make more people sick!

I've never been that much into FSM, but it's always sad when an industry that deserved more attention anyhow loses yet another one of their brightest stars.

Well, as Lukas says, time to join the 21st Century. They aren't the only one making a change due to costs.

Our local non-profit group stopped its printed newsletters and quarterly publications last year - after 40 years - and do everything on the website and by email. It saves us thousands per year.

And hey!! There is no reason they can't bash zimmer online!!! That's always good.

WOW! That's one d-u-m-b-a-s-s statement! zimmerito you're sooo full of it it's not even funny! I like HZ too, but FSM is awesome, was awesome, and I am sure will continue to be awesome. Why don't you just broaden your g-o-d-a-m-n-e-d horizons a little!?! And the criticism leveled at HZ from FSM is more or less on par with the truth. The only unjustified criticism and s-t-u-p-i-d-i-t-y on most anyone, except for maybe Jerry Goldsmith, came from the "Kaplan brothers." FSM treated their comments like it was f-u-c-k-i-n-g gold when it was just plain c-r-a-p, especially their "teaser" review of Revenge of the Sith; a discussion about their supposedly "early" listen to the score to "tease" everyone about it even though we'd all downloaded it that weekend; and their thoughts on Batman Begins before it had been released, gimme a break!!! What a joke! Jon and Al Kaplan are the only weak links in the strong FSM writing team and founder, IMO. Jeff Bond's stuff is pretty cool, too, man just check his wicked book, The Music of Star Trek. Grow up once and for all zimmerito!

Just sent off for my two CDS today. Men of the Fighting Lady/Valley of Kings and Waxmans' Demetrius and the Gladiators. The suite for the latter on the old Waxman series Varese CDs is exc.

    Zimmer strikes back!

If I said what I REALLY thought about this sentiment and complete lack of logic or intelligence, Peter K would have me banished into Bogieland. Besides, I'm too much of a lady.

But I will say this ...zimmerito, I think you have some real serious issues, and my advice to you would be to seek some professional help as soon as possible.
