Why not hire a more decent composer for all his last projects?
    I can't understand.

Revell is a decent composer, but he is hired soley for his experimental sound. Which is only one ascpect of his musical talent in my opinion.

Eh, you know it's pretty much the exact same action beats as his Chronicles of Riddick score, right? Sure, his Marv theme is good, but nothing else of his does it for me there. John Debney's contributions are the milestone of that album; not his best work, but damn good if you ask me. I don't ever remember reading a Sin City thread earlier in the year. I thought I was one of the only ones who bought that album.

Exacly i like debeny's and even Rodriguez stuff for Sin city much more than revell's stuff.
But,ey! we are talking about revell, with more of 10 years composing for films. And I don't remember any good theme or track by him.
    Extrange thing.

Hmmm...I'm not familiar with the Chronicles Of Riddick score - a friend of mine sent me a cue from it one time, and I didn't particularly care for it. Yes, overall, Revell can be rather hit or miss with me, but on those "hits", I think he does it rather well. I really enjoyed his two cues from the From Dusk Till Dawn score.

Anyway, about the rest of the Sin City score, Debney's stuff is pretty good, but for some reason I enjoy Revell's stuff even more. Rodriguez's main title cue is fantastic, and some of his cues are okay, but overall, I found myself getting bored with his segment of the CD before the other two composers. Funny considering I love his music for Once Upon A Time In Mexico.

Went to the movies last night and was quite surprised to see Revell's name on the poster. Can anyone else think of a movie that has gone through so many composers before its release?

Anyway, the score could be good...provided that Revell hearkens back to his "Street Fighter"/"Power Rangers" heyday. Tim Simonec is quite invaluable to him.

Well Zimmie boy...since you consistently seem intent on raggging poor Graeme, he has plenty of fine work under his belt:

    The Crow
    The Siege
    The Negotiator
    Chronicles of Riddick
    Sin City

And a decent number of others. Even Daredevil had a good theme, and the "child/angelic" lament was very effective in the film.

Revell has written some very strong action music with a sound all his own with variety to boot.

I love Zimmer to death (and I'm man enough to say it!) but he always sounds like Zimmer.

You can have a dislike of a certain composers style and sound...that's your prerogative, but the man is hardly worthless as you have suggested. And no...this has nothing to do with picking on Zimmerito...I simply think you're wrong this time.

JackChase, is that you from good old CBn?

Btw, I'm sure you're comparing Revell to Zimmer with an unbiased opinion, zimmerito

    ...

next thing you know, zimmerito opens a thread "Hans Zimmer an actual composer is he!"

You must know something,I don't care if you attack zimmer. You can try to make me angry attacking zimmer but your mission will be a failure because i'm more mature than u.
    thanks and try again.

Frankly I'm amazed that zimmerito even listens to Herrmann (note the spelling??). Must be accidental...

    gkgyver - tis I indeed.

Anyway - why is Revell still working? Because some people actually LIKE his music, including filmmakers. Unfortunately, Zimmerito, Hollywood doesn't base their hiring off of what YOU like. Believe it or not, there are people out there with DIFFERING opinions. I could say the same thing about your beloved Hans Zimmer - I personally think the man is a hack...but there are plenty of people out there who like his music. So you know what? I accept that, and move on with my life.

I was just making an example, and Zimmer was the first man who came to mind - probably as much as you dislike Graeme Revell, I dislike Zimmer.

But yes, better composers like Silvestri and whoever else work less than, say, Revell or Zimmer. But what can you do?
