More silvestri or arnold and less MV guys please...
Zimmer has done great things in Hollywood music scores....his scores, his sound, harry gregson williams or john powell...
But,i think some great projects was attached to hi "guys" and its very sad.
I think tyler or Shearmuer are working too much.I don't know...
    I'm sad.

    Let's see...

Alan Silvestri: it's time to pick grapes in the vineyard, no time for movie scoring this month.

David Arnold: time for his year-long vacation, as is the case after every score he writes.

Bruce Broughton: television music just doesn't count, does it.

    There you go. Anyone else?

Well Media Ventures doesn't exist anymore... And I am not sure if they'd be to blame for other composers not working... But I am not sure if that's what you're asking or not.

No, Zimmerito, I'm European and I know what you mean - yes, there are a lot of scores composed by ex-MV composers. The sound, established by Hans Zimmer and co in films like The Rock and Crimson Tide, is very popular in Hollywood right now. But there are other strong trends too - the Thomas Newman/Jon Brion school, for instance.

I would love to see more high profile scores by underused composers... how about an X-Men III by Shirley Walker, a Spider-Man 3 by Joel McNeely and a Ghost Rider by Bruce Broughton?

Don't toy with my emotions like that! All 3 would be supremely excellent experiments and I'd LOVE to hear 'em. 3 very underused, and excellent, composers, imho.

Poledouris seems quite busy these days, if you can trust the IMDb.

Hey, you can't blame Nicholas Dodd for needing a vacation. What with all those notes he writes. Sorry, "orchestrates".

That brings up an interesting point. Has anyone noticed John Powell's music sounding somewhat like Thomas Newman? I first noticed it with I Am Sam.

    Clayton

NP>Face/Off (ok, we'll say John Powell's softer music since this sounds very MVish)

As for Arnold, he just did Four Brothers, which is fantastic. He also has Ghost Rider, the next to Roland Emmerich movies, and probably John Singleton's Luke Cage movie lined up. Oh, and I think Stoned as well.

Again, Four Brothers was fantastic, and a great way for Arnold to make his return.

Well, you can't. None of those films, except in Bunyan and Babe, is in production. But Basil will indeed score Bunyan and Babe which is absolutely wonderful!

Nah, according to his web site he is NOT scoring Ghost Rider. Roland Emmerich's next film, that prehistoric adventure 10,000 BC, will be scored by Harald Kloser who also wrote the story together with Emmerich. Yes, you are probably right about Luke Cage although I don't think it's been confirmed officially, and yes, Arnold has indeed scored Stoned.

Pretty busy, actually. He has three new scores coming up: The Prize Winner of Defiance Ohio, Mrs Harris and The Woods.

Too bad about Ghost Rider; I pray that Mark Steven Johnson (the writer/director) doesn't go with Revell this time out. May I give him the suggestion of Marco Beltrami or Alan Silvestri?

    What's this comment about Kloser teaming with Emmerich to "write" the story for 10,000 B.C.? I hope that's a joke; becuase it's a sick joke . . . . . I don't think it's a joke at all.

The two Roland Emmerich films I was referring to were King Tut and One Nation - again, this is coming from imdb.com admittedly, so anything's possible.

No, it's not a joke. I don't know if Kloser will take part in the actual screenwriting process, but he and Roland Emmerich has written the story that it will be based on together.
